CW C65 Valour

Today Christopher Ward launched a pretty special watch and one that has surprised and excited many people.

At a time when the brand continues to evolve and grow whilst also finding incredible ways of making amazing Swiss mechanical watches at an approachable price, we are proud to introduce the C63 Valour.

This is the first watch in our MOD-approved Military Collection which is dedicated to all three of His Majesty’s Armed Forces.

Powering this sleek 39mm light catcher case is the ETA G10.212 AD COSC which is a quartz chronograph movement that displays hours, minutes, and seconds and is accurate to +/- 10 second per year!

For twenty years Christopher Ward has always strived to make the best watch it can to suit a persons particular style, lifestyle, budget, love of mechanical or quartz watches etc … and in this, our anniversary year. The C63 Valour once again adds a price point that is hopefully attainable for all.

Some of the feature that I love are …

The reverse panda dial boasts three subdials – with the hand of each one coloured to a particular Service: red for the Army; dark blue for the Navy; light blue for the RAF.

The caseback features the heraldic crest of the Army, Navy and RAF. We’ve used the versions with the ‘Queen’s crown’ as a mark of respect to Queen Elizabeth II.

What do you think ?

I love it a lot! Is there a chance you will do a panda dial? 🧐🐼

Sorry Mike! I like CW, but entirely neutral on this one. It’s a nice enough watch, but besides the colored subdial hands there is nothing there which really speaks to me. And to be 100% honest with you: the marketing blurb (“finding incredible ways of making amazing Swiss mechanical watches”…) does not help. Still, CW is a brand i like, I’m very happy with my C63 GMT, and look forward to future offerings (with less marketing bla bla, at least on this forum please :)

It was always going to be one that wouldn’t work for everyone because of the world (Swiss Mechanical) that we are now working within but it’s great to have a little variety. Appreciate the note.

Thanks Lauren. This is the only variation that we have planned for the foreseeable future but we will always listen to the community for what might come next.

·

Any chance you guys are working on a mechanical version down the road?

I like the concept, but it misses the mark for me just slightly. I think a military themed watch should be less dressy, particularly in respect of the bracelet. I think a Nato maybe colour matched to the sub-dial hands (so predominantly neutral with red and the two different blue accents), would be a nice alternative. Or possibly included as a separate strap option along with the bracelet. Good luck with the release, though-my tastes aren't everyone's.

Congratulations @Mike55! It is a beautiful watch, well designed with perfect dimensions (for me), plus fun splashes of colors. When I saw the preview, I thought it would be an immediate buy, especially after how much I enjoy my Twelve. While I am holding out hope this design language will make it to a mechanical or automatic movement, I am psyched that a watch of this quality exists at that price point.

·

Really good looking watch! Love the tribute to HM The Queen 🫡

·

Very cool indeed! I like it! 👍

·

At first glance because of the 2,6,10 missing the dial seems almost asymmetrical because I'm not used to it but then I looked up the dimensions and realised this works beautifully.

·

It looks really interesting! I’m hoping to seeing it at Wind Up SF in a couple months, if I’m able to make it.

·

Looks great and I appreciate the high-accuracy quartz. Not sure about the military branding, on any watch TBH, but overall it’s nice if not specifically for me.

·

What a cool addition. think quartz is great. Having collected watches for some time, I’ve evolved to appreciate great dials and cool designs with a quartz movement. Save on the $$

·

It's a great looking chronograph, and I'm glad CW is back with another chronograph in the line up (big fan of the C65 chrono). As a small wrister and a huge fan of chronographs, I appreciate the case size and would even welcome a 36mm version, if possible. The sundials are beautifully contrasted and the colorful small hands are very fun and whimsical.

The only thing that keeps me from purchasing it is the lack of lumed indices on the dial. I don't need every single number to be lumed, but it would be nice to have some (maybe the 12/3/9).

Keep doing what you guys do best, which is creating great watches at great price points. Im always excited when you guys release new models.

This morning, I put a CW watch in my cart. After making my decision, once again the CW team launches a new watch. It’s an amazing watch. Now, I am going to be reconsidering my decision.

The longer I'm in this hobby, the more I crave watches with a distinguishable design language. Where you can look at an aspect of a watch - the dial, the bracelet, the case shape, the hands, the lugs etc and say "that's a GMT Master", "that's a Speedy" or "that's a Santos". I've always struggled with CW on this front (the Bel Canto and the Super Compressor are probably the only CW watches, that I can distinguish from afar).

Don't get me wrong - it's a lovely watch, well-made and great specs. But as someone who has slowed down quite a bit and has matured significantly, taste wise, (at least from my earlier days in collecting), if I'm going to throw my hard-earned at something, I want to be happy in 20 years time, as I am now. And for that, the watch has to be unmistakeably CW.

Ordered 😍

Immediately upon seeing the watch, I loved the overall look. Which is unusual for me - I respect what CW is doing, and the finishing appears impressive, but I’ve never been outwardly attracted to your design language. Until now.

I’m not afraid of quartz, especially as a chrono. In some cases I prefer it. I own multiple and it gives this watch, at least in the press images, a lovely thin shape unusual for a chrono. The silver Arabic numerals against the black dial are a perfect mix of sporty/classy/practical. The colored hands lend a fun splash of color on a daily-able piece.

My only critique? The sub-dials do look disproportionately large to my eye. But not necessarily a deal-breaker.

I had been leaning towards a GS quartz 3-hander but this has made me stop to pause and reconsider given the price point and added functionality, whilst matching the quoted accuracy of the sbgx.

·

Strange and brave? Surely preferable to have the "usual" 369 subdial positioning of the daytona/speedmaster, or even a 6912 positioning of a Sinn. Also curious as to why no date? Many a quartz chrono seem to find space to wedge that in, commonly at 4.30. Also, few brands (that aren't Japanese) can position quartz at this price point. It's at least unique, in these ways.

Funny. Which model did you put in your cart?

·

It looks nice but I am not sold on lumed hands without lumed markers. Also, I think the the trident counterbalance on the seconds is a CW signature that this watch should have on the chronograph hand.

·

Needs more lume.

·

That's beautiful and with you saying it's the first in your MOD approved military collection I can't wait to see if there will be an Army 🪖 edition since I served in the Army .

36 Black Sealander. I am looking for an everyday tool watch for my collection. I jumped around from the Dune GMT, 39 White Sealander GMT, 39 White Sealander and five or six other CW watches. For right now, I’m just going let it set for a week and reevaluate.

That's a beauty. I almost bought that one. I ended up getting the Dune instead. I was surprised how elegantly it was finished. The Dune is 38mm and fits my 17mm wrist nicely (if anything it wears a little small). It's my favorite watch. I don't think you can go wrong with any CW watch.

I love the CW military collection (Dartmouth, Sandhurst, Cranwell etc) but I wish they would do versions without the insignia on the back for us “civvies”.

I have friends who are/have served and I would just feel a little bit of a fraud! Especially the maroon strap on the Colchester - I would feel funny wearing that. Again, nice watches but I ust my thoughts 👍
