Are you a box-checker?

If so, I think you'll wanna look at this Sinn. It hits all the marks for me and can be had at a very reasonable price. Can you think of a watch that checks more boxes per dollar?

✅ Date window too small to useful.

A 3, 6, 9 field watch should not have a date.  But if it does, it shouldn’t be so small that it’s just a pimple on an otherwise perfect watch.

I’ve waited for years for them to make this a no-date but they haven’t so I haven’t bought it.

I think I would be fine with it if it was radially oriented on the dial, but the vertical square just feels awkward at the 4:30

I have that watch (non RS version) and the placement/orientation/size of the date window is PERFECT for me. It's not intrusive, but there if you need it for reference. I personally don't need or want a huge date window staring at me all day when I only need to be reminded of the date maybe once or twice over the course of the day. This just shows we all have different ideas about what works  aesthetically and what misses the mark.

I prefer the 6 o clock date best. Barely notice it on the spirit 37

The problem with that watch is that it's too flexible and checks too man boxes  It would crowd out half my collection of specialists.

We really have too many first world problems here... 🤣

Everyone here knew exactly what I meant too!

Yep it's still the reason why I can't justify an Aqua Terra in the permanent collection

Max,

Those RS references rolled off your tongue a little too easy…did you just out yourself as a Car Guy? 🤔

I might've read more about cars than watches for the majority of my life 😂

My man!

·

Why do you always do this to me, Max? looks like I have a new watch to save up for.🤦🏻‍♂️😜

Overall, yep it's a straightforward, toolish, cockpit instrumentation design. For me though, the 12-3-6-9 numerals are too big, close to exaggeration. Perhaps back in the day, pilots were generally busy, having to constantly look at their watches every 15 minutes, while also looking at their many instruments on their plane dashboard. So, bigger numerals may have been necessary.
Nowadays, with so much automated systems, pilots are not that "busy" that instant legibility is a non-negotiable. There are many more timepieces that accentuate the 12-3-6-9 aesthetic but with less "in your face" numerals. A classic field watch is a good peg for excellent legibility in numeral size. But then again, if you love it, then enjoy! 🍻

It's a sharp watch and I think that the tiny date window is amusingly cute. The 556 A RS could have been a fine addition to my collection if only I didn't own three other 369 watches already and I'm not going to retire the SARB017 which fills a similar role.

Great video as ever and I agree 100% with your assessment.

However - it’s lacking something for me. Something a little different or special. A different movement or an eccentric bit of design... I suppose it’s a little boring..

As an aside I totally agree with where the solarbeat is on your list! And for me that does have that x factor (combo of the classic design and the solar secret.)

ps. Actually that mad little date window is something I like a lot because it does have that little touch of eccentricity..

IKEA for hamsters. Brilliant. For me that's every bracelet.

Hi Max. Just saw your video.  nice review bud. I just got the new version with the Sellita base movement. The rotor is no longer gold plated. No big deal for me. But that dang clasp is soooo hard to get off. My finger nails are not happy. do you have this problem? The clasp is one of the worst I’ve had. otherwise the watch is great.

·

I actually watched a utube video on this watch yesterday. I really prefer the (new) one you have with just a small pop of color with the red second hand. I agree with the others on the day window..almost like an afterthought...Nice watch..

I've been eyeing Sinn for a while. At first they didn't catch my attention but as my tastes started drifting towards simple designs they became more and more appealing.

The 856 really speaks to me from a specs perspective more. Tegiment steel, highly anti-magnetic, etc. It's a literal do-anything watch. But realistically, the simpler standard 556 seems perfect already and also has a more compact size. Ahhhh, this is a 'must' eventually I think. Maybe a couple more years before I get serious.

·

It's a fantastic watch , great size and aesthetically perfect to my eye. I love the stark simplicity of the Matt back dial and white printed markers and  oversize numerals . It just speaks my language, I admit to being a Sinn fanboy and love several of their watch's.

Currently I have 2 this 556A RS on black rubber deployment clasp from Zuludiver

Also a 857utc which again works for me even though it's on the busy side , design wise.

But I really like the date at it's 4.30 position and it helped me chose this version of the 556, it's small but readable even for my old eyes. I enjoy the slightly off kilter nature of it 🤷.

·

I prefer the more "boring" and cleaner look of the 556i but obviously, to each their own!

I love how the tig steel looks darker, almost like titanium

That's so fire. I don't hate the date but wish the window was radially oriented like in your 857

Its warmer to wear too🤷not sure if it's just in my head but it is definitely different feel from regular steel.

Totally understand what you are saying.

I mean there are a few different versions of the 556 with and with out numerals and different colours and Matt and gloss finish to the dials. One has the date at 3 o'clock and of course the pastel colours are no date.

It's so hard for a company to get all the specs to everyone's liking. You know it would be really interesting to know just how they decide as a brand/company what options they should use on these different derivatives. Maybe it would make a good video for you if you could get an interview with someone from their product department Max.👍 By the way I'm really enjoying your video's recently, keep up the great content 🔥

Does it come in a perpetual calendar, world timer or minute repeater configuration?  It isn't checking off the boxes for me as well as it did for you.

·

Actually, the regular 556i is on my shortlist; unlike you, I like how stark it is. Sinn has become super-intriguing to me for all the boxes you’ve ticked.

·

to be fair I always like the regular 556i more than the 556a or this new RS version, the regular version just looks more versatile

·

Great review! Congrats on your new Sinn too 🙂.

I own a 556i and love it. I almost bought the version with the red hand, but my fiancé (now wife) convinced me otherwise. I’m happy with the choice.
