Who still wears Vostock?

Love mine ๐Ÿค“ but I know these watches get some hate. Build quality may be simplistic and rustic, but I think that's the reason they don't break ๐Ÿ˜…. Mine is a little boring with the black and white colorway, but it's also the reason I love it (because I'll wear it ๐Ÿคฃ) who else still collects and wears Vostocks? What's your favorite?

I have a small Russian collection and I still enjoy them.

ยท

I like them more for their history than their quality these days, still a cool watch

ยท

I am very torn on Vostok. I am intrigued by the brand and the rugged quirky nature of the watch. I just not sure I could back a Russian brand at this time.

ยท

They are great watches, dont let it ruining for you.๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿซก

Nice, different date window.

I know many will vote against due to current politics, and while I agree with them, part of me wonders why IWC, Laco, A. Lange, Stowa, Panerai and others get a pass.

I mean the afore mentioned all got popular and were utilized/bought and proudly worn, during a rather large conflict, and not by the Allied powers until later, just sayin....๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿค๐Ÿป

ยท

I love the colorway on yours! Crisp white dial, bold black markings, and a black bezel to tie it all together. That's always a winning combination, but so many white dial watches miss that second part.

I have one Vostok and I love the look, but I probably won't get another.

ยท

A guy I know in the Australian SES wears them.

I somewhat agree with you but the countries those watches are made in are currently allies. Vostok not so much.

ยท

I love my Vostoks, I just donโ€™t buy any made after Feb โ€˜22 ๐Ÿ˜‰

ยท

Vostok Amphibia is my beater watch. It's super tough and reliable. And despite it's pretty large size, I really enjoy wearing it, there is some charm in it

ยท

*Vostok

I do. I love mine.

ยท

Hard to beat their ingeniously simple proprietary caseback and crown design.

A big one for me is Sea-Gull. The factory, brand, etc is a state corporation of the Chinese govโ€™t, whichโ€ฆ i mean the news about Shinchang isnโ€™t hard to find. Marathon also supplies the US military, so that is another thing. Probably one or two missing in the Iraqi desert. I also just generally find the attitude Vostok rich considering this all really started when Crimea happened, but i guess people felt it was fine to let that one go?

Valid point.

But still ironic nonetheless.

And as @CdeFmrlyCasual mentioned, haven't even begun to include some of the Chinese govt owned stuff.

And I can understand not buying anything new.

But there is a TON of vintage out there as well. Some even being sold by and to help finance Ukraine ๐Ÿคจ.

Actually Bulova and others used to use this style of caseback too, most notably (to me), Accutron. Itโ€™s mind-boggling to me that the design isnโ€™t more windspread. If I had to guess, it would be cost-cutting; simpler to pay for one piece of steel than a two-piece system. But stil!

My three Vostoks are 30-ish year-old Komandirskies, gifts from friends who bought them while visiting Russia in those days.

They are certainly reliable, if not particularly accurate. I admire the practicality of the simple mechanical design yet donโ€™t consider many of them to be particularly stylish.

Yours is the best looking I have ever seen! Thatโ€™s a very eye-catching design. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

I agree! The O.P.'s Vostok is one of the nicest I've seen as well! ๐Ÿ‘

I bought mine before they invaded Ukraine. So I put it on blue and yellow straps.

Alliesโ€ฆ by government yes, by real people, no.

Not to mention the real responsibilities in the conflict, and the real objectives.

So itโ€™s all very relative and subject to discussion, thatโ€™s why politics has nothing to do here.

For me that was past generations but Russia is current. I try not to hold the current generation responsible for sins of their forefathers, but keep an eye on them to make sure they do not repeat.

And what about the ยซย sinsย ยป of current U.S?

I can try to address the issues by how I vote.

Do you have any info on the model or reference? My searches donโ€™t locate anything like it. ๐Ÿง

I own this 170548-02 'Pamfibia' with the sandwich dial and alternate bezel, mounted on a bi-color Nato strap and really like this look. That is some daylight lume going on in this particular picture.

These are nifty little watches and despite the current political climate, they are fun to wear and enjoy.

The solution to the "should I wear #vostok, can I wear #vostok?" question (in my opinion at least) is only wear vintage models and buy them from sellers in Ukraine!

Image

Wow, that's a really nice collection of them! Love what you've done with various strap pairings.

ยท
ImNevix

That works well.

I like the watch, but I support Ukraine, so yup, this is how I show it.

Image

Eventually, I'll probably swap the yellow side out for a green to match the color on the bottom half of the dial, but no rush there.

Sounds like a solid plane and reasoning for your choices. Why we as a human race cannot just get along and live peacefully is a question for the ages.
