Wedding Watch Decision

The wedding color is eucalyptus. Not that that is even a huge descion maker, its just a little push towards a green watch, which is no problem for me ๐Ÿ˜ The wife-to-be has kindly offered a watch of my choosing as a gift for the wedding. My heart was set on the green khaki.

Image

Still is set on this watch. I remembering seeing it at the Ben Bridge in Bellevue Square maybe a year and a half ago. I kind of forgot about it, until I saw @ThickyMicky post about it. Thank you for reminding me about this watch btw! The picture I posted doesn't do it justice, you should look at the pictures Micky posted. It happens to be the perfect color, and is honestly right up my alley in size(38m version), style, and price that I'm willing to let the girl pay lol. Probably going for this watch unless someone can convince me otherwise.

The same day my heart was so set on that titanium Hamilton, I found this version of a watch that I've been wanting for a long time. This is my gate way into the explorer world in a realistic way. My grail watch is either an explorer, or an IWC spitfire. So really kind of an equal longing in terms of style of watch. That dial is something else too. I want to see this thing in person desperately. As I'm writing this, I'm realizing my decision kind of changes depending on what watch I'm staring at. ๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ

The Hamilton does have more pros I think. It's thin, and much thinner than the seiko because the alpinist is pretty thick. Longer power reserve (I think). Not totally sure, but I would guess because the Hamilton has 70 hours, and I'm not sure about the seiko. I like the fact that the Hamilton is mostly brushed so scratches are not as apparant. It's titanium, and I don't own a titanium watch. The seiko is slightly cheaper, and the biggest thing going for the seiko, THE DIAL. Probably going to own both eventually, just need help on which one is on the wrist for the wedding.

I recommend cartier santos dumont.

I'm not a Seiko guy, but between the two the Seiko seems nicer.

The Hamilton just does nothing for me...

ยท

I agree with @KristianG. The Hamilton is a bit meh compared to the Seiko.

ยท

The Hamilton edges out the Seiko for me. Like you mentioned, itโ€™s thinner and I also believe it has a better movement to boot. I believe for a wedding watch you canโ€™t go wrong with the Hamilton.

๐Ÿ˜‚ If you're willing to gift one, I'd gladly wear it on the big day! But not really in our budget, nor is really my style. Love em, but my heart is geared towards outdoor watches for some reason.

I can't say I agree with on the Hami. But field watches have a special place in my heart, and I couldn't tell you why. ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

For me, that version of the Alpinist is one of the few Seikos I actually like.

The Hamilton is nowhere near eucalyptus, you'd be better off with a neutral colour than that. The Seiko looks perfect colour wise

Can't argue with that, its beautiful. Its strange I had never heard of it until yesterday.

In the picture I posted, you're right. Even though I'm not too concerned about the color. But if you look at @ThickyMicky 's photos of it, its a completely different color. Not really eucalyptus, but more so than what I posted. In videos, it looks more like Micky's.

My choice would be Hamilton. I like the color, the size, the thin, the brushed finish, and for me the Arabic numerals.

The Seiko is no slouchโ€ฆ and also a great color.

The Hamilton will slide under your cuff with ease.

Out of the two I would have the Hamilton, I did really want a 1959 alpinist but when I actually had one in my hand for a proper fiddle I did not go for it, just my opinion but I think the Hamilton is a better quality watch all round, best advise is to get your paws on both first to see what floats your boat.

I'll try to get my hands on both, but the seiko will be hard to find. I agree though, I think the hamilton would be better in most areas.

In this case, I would pick the Alpinist. Tbh I'm biased towards Seiko but the Hamilton is just overpriced even though its titanium. If you want a good titanium watch, I would check out Citizen since they do titanium watches better than anyone at the lower price point plus they have great dress watches at the same price point like the model NB1060.

The Seiko is thicker at 12.8mm but it has a boxed crystal which is adds to the thickness and the watch itself wears thinner on the wrist. I guess is like 1mm difference between the two watches . Plus the Seiko has AR coating, much better WR and is more versatile even though its its a field watch and I find Hamilton dial too busy for a dressy situation. The Seiko can be dressed up or just keep it sporty. For the wedding, the Seiko is much better choice. It also has a 70 hours power reserve movement, the accuracy is not the greatest out of the box but works well while it on the wrist and can be regulated if needed. The Hamilton is grade 2 Titanium without any treatment, even if its brushed it will pick up scratches easily over time.

Try them on in person. The Seiko Mystic forest is boutique edition so maybe hard to find if you don't have a proper Seiko AD nearby. But you can try on other color to get a feel.

You make really good points ๐Ÿ˜ญ Feel like I will be heart broken, but maybe the seiko is the way to go. Seems like the polls see it that way too. The hamilton should have AR coating too though, right? I guess I'm not sure, but I assumed it did since cheaper Hamilton's do. I think I agree the seiko will be better for the wedding. But honestly I'm not concerned about which goes better with a suit. Good points though, I need to see em in person.

I had the black dial version of the Hamilton titanium. No AR coating at all. Legibility was a nightmare and I got rid.

Hamilton rarely puts AR on their watches, none of the Khaki field models have AR coating other than the Murph. Its a very stupid thing that Hamilton does with AR and water resistance issues in the khaki field models. One of the main reason that has put me off from buying the bronze Khaki field, the legibility of the glossy dial without AR on the crystal is very bad.

Go see it in person, buy the one which you like.

ยท

Take a look at the new green King Seiko SPB373. To me that screams more "wedding watch". :)

ยท

I'm a dial fanatic, so the Alpinist would be my pick. Honestly, the Hamilton leaves me a little cold...

For me the Seiko wins. I would put it on a black strap though, since you will be most likely wearing black shoes and a belt for this formal occasion.

The 38 murph was going to be an option, but I chose the green dial over it. Didn't know about the AR. I just assumed that if you pay 1000 usd for a watch it would have AR ๐Ÿ˜’

I was looking into getting this dial in blue or this brown. Such an amazing dial under the macros I saw on youtube.

Dang. Well thank you for your input. I think the AR is a big enough reason to not go for the hamilton.

Yes, the details on the dial are superb, textured like tiny ropes. No idea how they make it, but mesmerising.

Unfortunately, not in the case of Hamilton watches, very few models have AR and it is still pretty weak compared to models from Tissot and other Swatch brands. Its very weird why they struggle to get AR and water resistance right in their models.

I would flip a coinโ€ฆ you win either way
