Collection Photos

I love looking at pictures of peoples collections.

I like to think about how those collections might have been considered, and put together over time. Which piece is perhaps the family heirloom, which piece has been owned the longest, what the preferred genre and aesthetic of the collector is, and where the collection is going.

Of course, I also like to think about what I’d sub out if I were them, or what I’d add or simply delete. I am also always keen to see how collectors present and store their watches.

Somehow, collection pics are even more watch-porny to me than great pics of individual watches.

This is my small collection so far - does anyone else think similarly and care to share their collections?

Cheers everyone.

Wow great and beautiful collection! Love you cases too

A really well curated collection you have. Great mix. The dress section with your GS and the Reverso is my favourite.

·

Do you have another box, you know, the one with all of your good watches?

·

Very nice Wayne, I love 🥰 that JLC and I really like SOTC pics. What make are the watch rolls, they look classy?

Here's my lot as it is today, and this is the order of purchase: Junghans Max Bill Chronoscope, Tudor Black Bay Noir (smiley), Tudor Black Bay 36, Archimede 1950-3, Sinn U50 T, Stowa Marine Classic 36 Roman, Vostok Amphibian 710, Seestern 300T, Seestern 600T, vintage Ordiam.

Many more have come and gone between the first (Junghans, bought 2012) and the latest (vintage Ordiam, bought 2022).

Very nice Calumets!

The changes over time aren’t reflected in singles pics of course, but it’s nice to catalogue the changes over time.

The JLC I purchased with a small inheritance to remember my dad. It is special to me - I love it too.

The cases are by Carapaz you can buy direct from them online - I would really recommend them.

Thank you - very kind.

Lovely collection! My collection is not as fancy…but question though… do you keep your watches in those cases? all the time? don’t you like to see your collection? I wonder why keep a lovely collection all closed up?! Unless you keep them open then ok but i wonder…just curious …

I do keep them in the rolls. There is something ceremonial about taking the rolls out and opening them and selecting a watch - or just looking at them.

I never found a box that worked for me - the cushions are always useless and the watches never seem to sit cohesively in the compartments. The glass topped boxes get dusty and end up looking bad, and hard lidded boxes tend to need to be moved to open and appreciate the contents anyway.

the watch rolls also allow me to think about how I want to see the sub- collections.

For OCD me it’s just a tidier and more tactile solution, and they fit easily in a safe - but each to their own.

·

OP, which watch is the top right? At first glance I thought it was a Nomos minimatik but I can't tell.

·

Well thought out collection.  If I were to change one thing, I would swap out the GS GMT for a Zenith chronograph.  That way it maintains one watch per brand and eliminates the duplication of the GMT complication while adding a new complication.

·

Very nicely done! Would love to one day add the Reverso and the Batman into my own collection;

When I posted asking about watch box storage the other day, I was a bit surprised that a safe was the most common answer for daily storage of watches and watch boxes.    I think those of us who keep watches in the middle of the living room (with a small spotlight) may be in the minority!

Baller collection💪 - love it!

I've got some quality and quantity in my quiver.
Top right of yours is from dad or grandpa?

Image

Long term dreaming to add a Sinn and a few GSs ... someday.

The oldies here are grandpa and great uncle.  Seiko turtle is latest acquisition and love

Very nice collection Sir. Yes it’s an old Nivada Grenchen that was my Dad’s from when he was a school boy.  A few years ago I had the opportunity to get it restored and give back to him on his 75th birthday. Then after he died, it came to me and I treasure it.

·

Nice watches. That middle row is almost perfect. Just need to add a Santos to it 😅

Going full family - I’ve got a couple more :

And my great grandfather’s (then grandparents, then my parents…) freakishly accurate grandfather clock.  Will have to do a WRUW on this one of these days 😁

Thanks! The old seamaster was my first  “serious” watch. It’s outclassed now but has sentimental value, so even though I hope to add a new seamaster at some point - I think I’ll probably hang on to it forever.

Beautiful Collection Wayne. I see you have a few Grand Seiko's, The SBGA461 is on my wish list!

Ive attached a snap of my collection. I really need to stop before I end up divorced..

·

Great collection, thanks for sharing. I also love SOTCs posts and smiled when I read your reasons why because I’m exactly the same.

Happy to share mine too. Apart from a few G-Shocks and a few fashion watches I never wear but have sentimental value, here is mine:

I also really enjoy SOTC posts I’ve tried suggesting a badge for it to try and get some more in. My collection is not quite as luxurious as yours. But here’s my quartz:

And here are the mechanicals.
