Is Jaeger LeCoultre the Watch Enthusiast's Watchmaker?

We all know that JLC is well known as the watchmakers watchmaker, and for good reason.   But I would like to suggest that when you balance heritage, model range, quality and brand appeal - JLC may also warrant being known at the Watch Enthusiasts Watchmaker. Its not the public's watchmaker - but that only increases its appeal to enthusiasts from my perspective.

What do you all reckon?  Am I right or would you pick another brand for that title, and why?

Have a good day everyone.

Unpopular opinion: Seiko/Citizen with their NH35/Miyota movements make them the microbrand watchmaker's watchmaker

I feel that we all have a bias in this arena. I can appreciate your reasoning and your conclusions that brought you to JLC.

That being said mine would be Breguet. Along as what you discussed about balance of those areas mentioned (Abraham-Louis Breguet), I feel the design of art and function are at it's peak with this watchmaker at this point and time. Also build of their movements becomes art as part of the timepieces.

JLC is a great watchmaker in all ways don't get me wrong.

We'll that's my 2 cents. It's a good question to ask and it will be interesting to see what others post.

Cheers!

I said this on another thread this morning. JLC has very good after sales service, something many people don't consider while buying a watch.. but in 5-10 yrs the day will come. After my unsatisfactory experience with Zenith in the US.. JLC is awesome, white glove all the way.

I don't think that's an unpopular opinion, you're quite right at the microbrand level they are the watchmakers watchmaker

The resurrection of A Lange & Sonne may be to my mind not old and venerable like the watches mentioned on this blog , but to my taste the most elegant watches in existence and the movements are sublime . Personal choice . I can’t afford one but the triple flyback chrono from them is a masterpiece.

They need to ditch their albatross model, the Reverso. Same as Patek needs to scrap the Nautilus, AP the Royal Oak, and Omega the Speedmaster. Till then, their model line won't get the attention it deserves.

Yup - Breguet is amazing and deserves more love than it gets.  I guess I was thinking about JLC being a little (little!!) more accessible and therefore pipping Breguet at the post.  But completely agree with all your observations.

Understand and a good point and agree also. Be nice to sit and talk in person over a cup of coffee.
