so need this in my life

Hey, what's up? I'm here to talk about something that's been on my mind for a while: rolex watches. You know, those shiny, expensive pieces of jewelry that make you look like a boss. I've always wanted one, but the price is crazy. And don't get me started on the resell game. It's like a game of roulette, where you never know if you're going to get a good deal or a fake. I've heard stories of people paying thousands of dollars for a rolex that turned out to be a knock-off. How frustrating is that?

So, what's a rolex lover to do? Well, I have a few options. One is to save up and buy a brand new one from an authorized dealer. That way, I can be sure it's authentic and comes with a warranty. But that would take a long time and a lot of money. Another option is to buy a pre-owned one from a reputable seller. That way, I can get a lower price and maybe even find a rare or vintage model. But that would still require some research and trust. A third option is to buy a replica. That way, I can get the look and feel of a rolex without breaking the bank. But that would also mean compromising on quality and ethics.

So, what do you think? Which option would you choose? Or do you have another idea? Let me know in the comments below. Thanks for reading!

Buy a high quality rep and keep saving for the real version. I think that it makes sense to do that because, even after you buy the real thing, it may be safer to wear a rep around so if it gets stolen or broken you still have the real one at home. I’m not a huge rep collector myself, but I think it has its uses.

You want a good watch-not a fake POS. Used Rolexes aren't always a whole lot less. If a Rolex is beyond your means, as is the case with many, simply buy and enjoy what you can afford.

A fake Rolex is no more a Rolex than a Timex is. The only "look and feel" that a Fake will get you is the look and feel of a poseur.

I think you should even consider other brands such as Tudor but if it must be a Rolex I’d consider the pre-owned market before AD unless it’s for models that are more expensive in the resale market.

·

IMHO, I would go to an AD. You’ll pay RRP for the watch, which is often less expensive than the grey market and honestly, the waiting isn’t that big of a deal. Mine arrived in just under 3 months. If it’s the money issue, either save for what you want, or buy what you can afford until you are able to put the 👑 on your wrist.

First two options are great. Authorized Dealer or Trusted Dealer (preferably with a storefront)

About that last one: Homage is the way to go if you like the looks.

I will not get replica. I've seen some in Turkey when I travelled there earlier this year. Lets just say I can hear their Miyota movements from across the room.

If you want diamonds on your watch the best thing as a last resort is buy a Rolex and buy a diamond aftermarket bezel and keep the original bezel once is time to sell trade etc. Unfortunately with luxury goods that are in high demand is hard to get a band for buck let alone jewelers that pray on people and sell cheap diamonds. Like they say "the cost to be the boss"

If you want shiny without breaking the bank try Bulova they have homages with a twist. Not my cup of tea.

I also wouldn't get a vintage Rolex as my first Rolex. Vintage is a can of worms, lots of issues can happen. Modern Rolex has way better construct, and aesthetics.

My advice is, go to an authorized dealer and get on a waitlist for a brand new Datejust, or Oyster Perpetual. (Not the special Tiffany blue, or Womberton dial). Just a simple dial. They'll call you after a few months.

Some years later, you can go back to that A.D and put yourself on a waitlist for something else. Since you've already got purchase history.

·

It's getting earlier to get the call. Go give that a try. Until then, get an omega ;-).

·

I totally get the desire for Rolex, and if that's the watch that does it for you then I would either go vintage (but be aware of crazy servicing costs going forward) or save up for new (but be aware that prices are going up each year).

In the meantime, remember, it's the person wearing it that's the boss, not the watch 🤜🤛

Luxury watches are extremely overrated. Yes, they're nice but at the end of the day, there are a million other pieces that exist that can make you happy. For instance, I love the Rolex Explorer II "McQueen" but there's no way I would ever be able to afford a 44k vintage watch.. Buuuut, A Christopher Ward GMT exist, is just over 1k, and captures the same ethos as the McQueen! You're never "settling"for getting something more affordable and if you find the right piece you'll love it the same as any multi-thousand dollar piece that exists.

i know they are i seen a couple that under 1000 in a couple vintage watch i like . im not into the name i just like to look nice .you know what im saying just a littie wow factor .lol

·

Buying from a trusted pre-owned reseller isn’t usually cheaper, just faster. Talk to your local AD in person, I know here (NorCal) they are saying 3 to 6 months for AirKing or Explorer. Fake is fake and all the time it’s on your wrist you’ll know it and you will not be satisfied and you did say you weren’t going that route but you were the one who brought it up.

Wait, spend less, get the real thing in the meantime keep an eye on the resellers in case something shows up.👍

Got’cha

I dance to this song everytime I wear a Rolley.

Like I said, get it from that A.D. Worth the wait

·

Or just get a lightly worn 36mm there are plenty on the market and in my honest opinion wouldn’t spend more than 4k for one watch it’s a swapped bezel and dial. They aren’t my cup of tea but I get the Rolex effect, it’s real and in my humble opinion had made some encounters a little more graceful for myself. If it’s a goal and what you want you can achieve it. But I wouldn’t waste money on a clone, you will be able to fool most. But you will never be able to fool yourself.

save.

·

Option 3 isn't really an option I think. Better to get an homage watch...be it a Tudor or a San Martin. So that narrows it down to option 1 or option 2. I went the option 1 route earlier this year and waited just under 4 months for a 36mm Explorer.

Let us know which option to chose...and pics when you get it!

·

I would say go the route of buying a vintage piece. Most replicas are of newer pieces, so you even have the option of purchasing from forums such as Reddit. There’s a couple folks on there that are high volume sellers and have a reputation for selling good quality, non-replica pieces at a really good price.

The risk there is vintage pieces will require proper servicing and care, but again you’re getting in at a much better price than modern pieces.

·

I have spoke to people that wanted a Rolex so bad and once they had it .... blah..no longer interested. Sold it a month after getting it.

·

I don't think a Rolex or any expensive watch makes anyone look like a boss.

It makes people look like they are trying to compensate for something.

Or it makes them look like they are slaves to the marketing machine. (Which is actually the case sometimes. I don't see why anyone would work hundreds or thousands of hours just to make some mega corporation even richer.)

And finally, most celebrities who you see wearing products in media are being paid huge amounts of money to wear them.

However, do whatever makes you happy.

But in my opinion there's really great options for a few hundred bucks which leaves you with money for a holiday or whatever else. I just don't see the point.

Schwarzenegger liked his watch so much he named himself after it.
