Mechanical wind 34mm Timex Marlin(unisex)... $80!! Would you?

So I just bought this Timex Marlin Cali 34mm Auto for a steal. It was advertised as "unisex" on the website. The case is on the small(er) side, but I already own many 35mm and 36mm watches so I figure, what's another millimeter?

Image

For me, if I like the design and the colorway is ambiguous enough, I have no issues buying a "woman's" watch. My thought is, "What is 1mm"? I don't own any 34mm watches, but I can't imagine I'm gonna notice a huge difference.

Image

The watch is only offered on this 18mm Nato. But I acually don't mind it because I have many 18mm straps, and not many 18mm Natos.

If you are also interested in picking up this Timex, Ashford.com is offering it on sale for

62% off. I paid around $80 including tax and shipping. I'm sure they will be selling quick so I'd pop by sooner than later. I mean; Timex, Mechanical wind movement, California dial... $80!? No brainer for me(and my wrist size).

My question for the WC fam is...

  • How do you(men) feel about buying a watch that is advertised as "unisex"?

*I don't care in the least.

  • What is your acceptable range of case sizes?

*Mine is 34mm-42mm with a 6.5 wrist.

Have a great day guys/gals!

Looks awesome, great buy

Same size wrist here. I think the Lorus Mickey Mouse watch I wore today is 32mm. I'd have to try smaller but I suspect I'd be fine with it. I'll round up and say 38mm is okay at the top end.

IDGAF about unisex. I've shopped for, and probably bought, watches listed as womens'.

·

For me personally it's a bit too small, 38 mm is my starting point..

As for unisex, doesn't really phase me as long as it's not all pink I'm fine 😂

·

What’s the lug to lug on it?

I have a 6.5” wrist but wear anything from 36 to 42mm.

They don't say, but they don't look super short. I have a feeling it's gonna wear like a true 35mm. Won't know until I get it.

34mm was the average size for mens watches for years. The case size is perfect for that style dial.

Here's an earlier 34mm Marlin on a 7 1/4 inch wrist.

Now I think I'll head over to Ashfords site.

32mm waves friendlily

I have smaller vintage watches. Some new but retro style too. Small is cool. Just own it and work it.

It's a fantastic deal. I told myself to chill out on buying for a while but, this deal doesn't really hurt much at all lol.

Yep, too much of a bargain to pass up for sure. 34mm is smaller, but not too small. That strap is cool. Kind of reminds me of the Gulf oil racing colours.

·

My wrists are about 7.5” and I have no qualms going up to 45mm with my Lunar Pilot, I feel fine in small watches too. I own a 34mm Movado Museum I’ve had for 20 years and while I don’t wear it much it’s not on account of sizing more so the blank dial. I would buy that Timex, put it on black leather straps and be happy with it.

That is, aside from the California dial. That’s a bridge too far for me.

Seriously though, if you think you’ll wear it I think it’ll look fine.

You know, I've noticed I have feelings for certain designs on paper, but then feel differently when I get it in-hand. I wasn't crazy about California dials, but I think this $80 watch will be a good test subject.

I have a 7.5” wrist and wear 34mm mid century dress pieces often with formal attire. Looks great. Hell, looks good in jeans and a t shirt too.

·

I think it’s a fine size, I just don’t understand these dials. A lot going on. Romans, Arabics, triangles, oh my!

Can you post a wrist shot? I have been eyeing this one for quite a while

I just bought the watch, but I will be posting it when I receive it.

·

I really wish it wasn't California numerals... I've been itching for a manual wind

·

Looks pretty cool!

I have a vintage Junghans I wear sometimes thats 34mm.

Other than that, my watches are between 36 and 38mm, so I like a smaller watch in general ;)

I think the Timex looks cool, enjoy it, the mechanical movement seems special 👍🏼

·

I have the same size wrist but even my 37mm (40mm with the button guards) feels small to me.

And I love my 43mm Citizen size. Next one might even be bigger (as long as the lug to lug is no more than 50mm which is the same as this citizen).

But that Timex looks very nice. Congrats.

I don’t care at all about the proposed gender of a watch, and my preferred range is 33-39mm. My wrist is 7inches or so and can handle a little more, but I like feeling like a giant ogre with my little watch

Most of my watches are 40mm or under. The only watch that is larger is my SKX that I will never get rid of. The SKX wears surprising smaller that usual. But I get it, 34-40mm is my real range... minus the SKX.

·

I have a 7.25" wrist so 34mm is the smallest I go. I prefer 36-39mm generally, but all my dive watches are 40mm because I have no real choice in the matter. At the present time, I have no 42mm or above (apart from an Invicta Grand Diver which isn't actually mine) in my collection.

·

I did. Thank you for the heads up! I have a 7 inch wrist, and I don’t mind wearing my 33mm Seiko Dolce.

·

I hear that men can now be women and vice versa, so that should certainly qualify for watches as well.

Thanks for the link! Been looking for this watch for a while. Still cheaper than MSRP converted to CAD with tax and duties lol. So excited!

I’m really loving it! 34mm is perfect for this watch. My wrist is 16cm and anything between 34mm and 38mm wears like a dream. I would love to try on a 30mm Patek 96 one day.

Question, is the caseback pressed or screw-in?
