What would be a great unisex 'explorer style' watch?

Hi watch fam! I'm hoping for your suggestions for my search. We are expecting a little girl before the end of the year, and as the missus and me are both watch lovers, I'm looking for a great birthyear watch the three of us can all wear.

We landed on an 'explorer-style' watch that can be a life companion and will stand the test of time as a daily wear. Watch size should be acceptable for small to medium wrist size (Mine is 16cm and likely the largest) and should come in at a max of around €4k.

Curious to see which one of the shortlist you prefer OR if you would suggest another option? Thanks for your thoughts!

Get a 36mm watch from Farer and add some color.

Congrats first of all and secondly the Tudor black Bay all the way for me, cheers!

First off congrats!

Second, I'll submit the affordable option of a Lorier Falcon. $499 gets you a heck of a lot of watch. Spend the extra in the MULTITUDINOUS rando small things you will inevitably buy....😅🤏🏻

Granted getting them in stock is a wait, but not impossible. Lorier also will engrave your caseback too if desired. It's not luxury, COSC, but it works, the dial is amazing and the size is 👌🏻.

I would prefer the Ranger over the Black Bay. Also, the Islander Manhasset is a good low budget option.

I'd try Chrono24, I hear they're hard to get.

The Longines is a lot of watch and brand heritage for the money, and that dial🤍.. the Tudor though again in the champagne dial is a beauty.. for me it would be a toss up between these. Tough choice, but an exciting one.. Good luck and enjoy👍

For what it's worth, the women in my life all hate the BB's spot indices and snowflake hand combo - too sporty/ugly. But my Longines Spirit 37mm gets universal praise. Gender aesthetics may play a role here...

None of the watches that you selected are "explorer style" watches.

First - congrats!

Second - great idea!

About the watches: I voted for the Bremont for a few reasons:

  • The Tudor is great, but I feel is more of a Datejust-style watch (I prefer it to the Datejust, personally) than a Explorer-style watch because it has a polished case, not a brushed one. It’s very shiny and dressier than the other two, especially on a bracelet.

  • The Longines is excellent, for sure … but something about the Spirit line doesn’t do much for me.

  • The Bremont won because it has a cool Trip-Tick case, a great dial, and a classic look that’ll look great for years to come. They also are reputed to have excellent customer support.

For alternatives, here are a couple ideas:

Btw - if you don’t take a photo of your newborn with the watch shortly after she arrives, we’ll all be sorely disappointed in you 😉

The spirit 37 is a great unisex piece. I have it in the collection but really, my wife wears it more. Can't go wrong with this one!

I would go with the longines spirit 37. The Tudor with the new bracelet and sunray dials seem more dressy than the previous eta/sellita and not as “explorer like”

So, other than an Explorer, which should have been on the list? Please enlighten me 🧘

When we talk about "Explorer style" watches we are talking about steel sports watches, usually with the 3-6-9 configuration. Some older watches also still have a 12 rather than a triangle.

So, the Nivada, Smiths, and Lorier above fit that description. The Nodus Sector is an interesting one.

Some more takes on the explorer style, again more affordable, but that means one for you and the missus!

I have the black w/fauxtina, but the brown dial is prolly the one I should be gone with very 👌🏻

Longines best of the business

·

from your suggestions, I'd go with the Longines or the Bremont. From what people suggested... that's a bit harder, because there's sooooo many great choices !

The new Tag Heuer Carrera is also decent. They have some beautiful dials. Tag Heuer is making a comeback and their designs this year have been really good imo.
