Kevin O'Leary opinions about being a watch collector

Good day/evening WC community. He is done it again! Kevin O'Leary (Shark Tank host) opinion about being a watch collector in another U-tube interview. According to Kevin O'Leary to be a watch collector, and I quote: "You must own three pieces of the same brand to be a true collector". Really? Does Kevin O'Leary knows how to be a true collector with a passion for watches and without deep pockets? Why, He is the ultimate "connoisseur" of collecting watches? I like Kevin, but why he came to a specific number, Three? I know some of us collect watches"all over the place" without having three pieces of the same brand. What you guys/gals think? Thank you for you opinion in advance. BTW, in my opinion, He is full of crap. Cheers!

Couldn't care less what some minor US celebrity that the rest of us don't know thinks 😂

·

He's of the kind of people that I just don't understand. That's the nicest thing I can say about him.

·

He’s out of touch with the general population. I would say having 3 watches is a collection! Forget the brand.

·

Don't watch his videos.. think they are boring..

I just watch his videos to see his nice pieces. I love his F.P. Journe, AP and Rolex pieces in his collection. Must be nice to have that kind of money and influence to be able to get whatever you want!

His definition of collector is that of a particular brand. Yours might be of pieces that speak to you. Different definitions, different collecting philosophies, both equally valid.

·

Out of touch snob. 👍

Yes, but is all subjective though!

Collecting is essentially just organised hoarding, something that his wife apparently also keeps telling him. I think it's fair to say that you aren't a hoarder of X unless you own at least a few X. You and I are not playing the same game that he is, that I don't think anyone can argue. I guess that means I kind of agree with him...

I don't judge, but not being a "real collector" isn't a bad thing. It's a disease that most people, myself included, can't afford to have because the symptoms can quickly become very expensive.

I don't intend to collect anything, i.e. keep looking for stuff and buying forever, because I have limited money and treat it like the expensive hobby that it is 🍻

I concur with you 100%. But he is "out of touch" of reality of being a watch collector. That is probably his life , "out of touch" of everybody his world that is not in his stature.

·

I think I'd probably hold everything with a pinch of salt with someone who matches a red rubber strap to the panda Daytona.

·

The top n-th % doesnt represent the majority of the watch buying population. He's not rooted in reality.

·

That guy is disgusting

This is true… I said the same, just that technically, two will suffice. That doesn’t mean that you have to have X amount of watches from a specific brand to be a watch collector. Just a collector from said brand.

I hate to agree with him but I think 3 is the number. Two could be a coincidence but three is deliberate.

I’m not sure what is going on with this thread. WC is famous for being free of any toxicity.

Kevin O’Leary is a wealthy man and a watch collector. He believes owning 3 or more pieces from a brand shows true commitment to the brand. He also has a soft spot for red bands. So? With a collection as big as his, he is free to build it the way he wants.

You can agree with him or not, you may like him as a public figure or not, but I don’t think what is going on here has anything to do with a friendly watch conversation.

Just to make it clear. I don’t know this gentleman, I’m not Canadian, we don’t have Shark Tank in EU. I have literally 0 reasons to defend Mr. O’Leary. The only reason I’m posting this is because I care about Watch Crunch.

Well, I got 4 Seiko Flightmasters so....ummm, where does that leave me?😜

This mini collection alone is a conversation starter for sure 👍.

In the uk we have a word for these kind of people - starts with W and ends in R

Neither Kevin nor anybody else for that matter is the watch police. You can do what you please and be perfectly happy with it.

He’s a businessman that likes to have press around him, and therefore he’ll always come with this “bold” statements… On top of that, the man has a lot of money… were you him, with the kind of money he has, wouldn’t you buy multiple watches from the same brand? I know I would. Difference being I won’t be giving out statements like that….

He could’ve said “I like to own at least three pieces from a brand, ‘cause that’s how I get to know their capacities and capabilities, that, for me, is what I call collecting a brand” but that’s not bold enough.

On top of that, if we want to be technical, a collection is a set of things, so you can have a collection of watches by owning at least two. The same applies if you want to have a collection of “x brand” watches. He’s partially correct, you just need 2 instead of 3 to be a brand collector, not a watch collector.

I don’t think you understand what I was getting at.

If Trump gets elected again, you won't want to be here. Actually, if he loses again, it isn't going to be pretty either.

Sorry then, Zachary, but if you’re willing to keep on talking about and willing to explain it to me, I’d be more than happy to keep the conversation going…

That’s ok man…. We can all have different opinions. 🤝

·

He is entitled to his opinion. Fine with me. I liked the interview with Wrist Enthausiast.

I never know if he is playing a role or using a facade.

He’s Canadian. North American, but not American. Additional he holds citizenship in Ireland and the UAE.
