When quartz hits the mark

Aside from some collectors not liking quartz because it’s quartz, I think a major turn off to some is when the dang seconds hand ( or Chrono hand ) does not hit each mark with accuracy. The 4 quartz analog watches shown here in my collection are almost perfect in this regard and makes me love them that much more. I must admit , If the seconds hand do not hit each mark it bothers me - anyone else have this view ?

I’ve actually reset the second hand on a few quartz. Take it off and re seat it properly.

It indeed bothers me too. I think it speaks to build quality, so when it does not hit the markers I feel it brings down the overall build quality of the watch.

·

It's just a matter of perspective. Who says the hand should line up with the indices anyway? Maybe it's deliberately marking half seconds, maybe it's a reference to the relative nature of time, or the inconsistent perception of time we experience.

·

I bothers me because I see this as a sign that nobody really cared when they assembled the watch, nobody inspected the watch and nobody fixed this visible issue.

So either the manufacturer doesn't think it's a problem (it is), or he doesn't care (I do), or he has a completely dysfunctional operation and QA. In all cases it's a sign that I should spend my money elsewhere.

You hit the nail on the head for me. It drives me nuts when the hand misses the indice or even worse if it has a noticeable backlash. However I did just buy a cheap $75 Bertucci quartz and was happy when it hits them all on the mark. Not positive, but I believe it just has a Miyota movement.

That's a solid collection!

YES. Drives me nuts. Going forward I doubt I’ll.L buy any watch that doesn’t line up. It’s basic stuff imo.

·

I can forgive the seconds hand not hitting exactly every marker but I really can’t stand a crazy backlash on the seconds hand. Nothing screams “bottom of the barrel quartz movement” like a wobbly seconds hand recoil.

I bought my gf a Junghans Max Bill Ladies quartz watch and on first half of the minute track it hits all the indices good but the second half it's off.

A bit dissapointing on a hand built watch of €695. Especially when a €19,00 Casio does it perfect..

I'll just file it under first world problems but still..

Having to wear glasses to read ,I'm lucky if I can make out the seconds hand let alone see the markers ,but with glasses on different matter

·

I don’t think it’s a big deal, but both of my quartz watches hit the marks pretty well

·

I do a lot of Quartz for my store. I’m getting pretty good at placing it right the first or second try.

So do I, that's why I love Casio. Despite the cheap price, they still somehow manage to make the second-hand align with the marker quite perfectly
