SOTC 2023

I’ve had a major transition year from 200 watches down to 9 - it’s been a large learning experience and I’m better for it. In 2024 I’m looking at possibly adding 4 total looking into Fortis , Vertex , Zentith and Longines. I’m in no hurry however as I wear these watches often and feel very satisfied…… for now lol 😂 Enjoy your watch journey as there is no wrong path !

Holy smokes! 200 to 9 is to the biggest transition I have heard yet. What kind of watches did you own when your collection was much larger?

·

I am curious about your journey. How did you select the styles and types of watches you kept ? How did you give away your 191 watches ?

Primarily digital Casio , micro brands and a few quirky vintage. Sold most off and have orhers away it was just to many watches not being worn

I sold most on eBay - I was collecting mostly affordable watches but I found I ended up never wearing them and each new I purchased the honeymoon phase was short. So I decided to sell what I could and give others away. My current collection is worn regularly and I’m getting much more enjoyment- I just focus on dial variation and having different styles represented that I’ll wear and use. I will add a fortis and vertex in the next 6 months or so

I went on a 17 watch G Shock buying frenzy in the span of 8 weeks. It was like a drug. Of the 17 only 4 I really like. Craziness. Maybe a sickness too.

Which platform did you use to sell your watches?

I use eBay for affordable watches as they tend to sell quickly

I get it ! I had 20 gshock squares alone lol - great watches but I only wore the black one you see in the pic. I was addicted to buying the watch , the anticipation and ultimate arrival of the new watch.

Nice collection. And good idea trimming so many affordables.

Interesting, appreciate you taking the time to respond. I'm not quite at that stage in my watch collecting journey. Right now, I'm leaning toward getting two watches at 1000€ each rather than investing in a single 2000€ watch, but my preferences might evolve.

I'm still working on reducing 200 to 32. I don't think I could go lower than that and still remain sane... ish.

·

Everyone who needs to cull down their herd should take good notes, well done John!

·

Solid, I can see all of those four working in your collection.

·

Wow that's insane. Sounds like me in a few years at this rate.

Awesome collection! How are you liking that stardiver? I'm loving that combo with the strap!
