Chronograph collecting

I never would have thought I’d be into chronographs as much as I am - all thanks to my speedy. Have you had intentions of collecting a particular type of watch only to surprise yourself with what you actually end up collecting? I still only have one diver - and I love divers but I still plan on adding a Zenith and a Fortis Statoliner S-41 next year. How about you all - any one else go through this unexpected yet fun path ?

Have an 1861 myself and love chronographs! The challenge I am finding is one that is under $10K (CAD), under 13mm thick and with 10bar WR (also prefer no date or 6 o’clock if necessary). Almost pulled the trigger on a Breitling Premier 01, but stopped because I prefer 3 sub-dials. If you know of any please recommend!

I was never into chronographs but somehow I have 3.. also I don’t swim but for some weird reason have 3 divers.. same with traveling.. barely travel unless its a vacation yet have 3 gmt watches.. guess I don’t have a moral compass. Mind wonders to whatever looks good.

Nice collection! You definitely need a Nivada CASD in there, though. 😄

Forgot to mention that model but absolutely yes I do !

·

Same as above. Don’t swim but I have a bunch of divers. Don’t race or really need them, but love chrono’s too. What a strange hobby.

·

I never intended to collect Casio's But they keep turning up in the post!

·

Chronographs are "nice to have" thingy for me, especially earlier before I went deeper into the hobby

·

I feel like my collecting so far has been deciding on a strategy, and then...

Chronographs are an underrated complication,in terms of watchmaking. A proprietary chrono is so difficult to execute, when some watch brand executives were asked, most placed the chrono/split seconds right below the PC and MR, (and above the tourbillon) in terms of difficulty.

·

I get the sentiment mate. Mine is 36mm sportswatches. It’s ridiculous

Glad I'm not the only one.

Super interesting and cool watch on the far left. What brand is it? Also, your profile statement, "Watches are opinions worn on the wrist," could not be more accurate! 🎯

The far left is a MTM predator 2 titanium case. It’s a large watch , very robust and durable

I'm very much of the opinion that chronos are pointless, I have no need for a stopwatch. So why do I own several and why am I constantly looking at others?

I think it's because they just look so damned good!

·

I'm finding myself drawn towards GMTs and world timers. I haven't acted on it yet.

·

I can see myself beginning to collect chronographs too. They are probably my favorite type of watch. I love the added complexity of the dial - plus they can be really useful.

·

Very nice.

·

Love that Cabot on the RAF strap 👌

Slowly but surely! 😁

It’s a MTM predator 2 custom dial titanium case - I’m into gshocks and wanted a large tough alternative- it’s very durable I’ve put it through hell

I was initially drawn towards chronos and dress watches. My only chrono is a Lunar Pilot. I love it, but I really like a large sweeping seconds hand on my watches. I have yet to find a dress watch that really works for me. And I didn’t have a huge interest in divers when I first started collecting — but it turns out they’re definitely my favorite genre of watch.

I totally sympathize!

·

Yes! Never like chronos (was more into GMTs) until the Speedy came along, just last week…what a beautiful watch, I can’t stop staring at it.

·

Chronos are best ❤️

·

For me, in general, it's tool watches. My collection is field, pilot, and divers. Only 3 out of 40 watches would be considered dress. Hell, I'm in the middle of ordering parts now for another pilot watch project. Got to order parts slowly to not upset my better half.

·

I could be tempted by the Timex Chrono 👍

·

Only chrono I own is a Quartz, the Lunar Pilot.

I avoid mechanical chronographs because of the high service costs

Some boat buy reversed. 95% of what i wear and collect. Iam looking for analog equivalents that are different brands
