Boring is the new black

Last year, I posted about boring being better, and I found that many of you guys love a bit of boring too. For me, it's the quiet elegance, deep appreciation for the unadorned, and everyday versatility that you get from "boring" that has ultimately led me to these pieces.

Consider this post a sequel to my original, but with a couple of additions to the collection, very much along the same theme.

  • F91W - you all know this one. For when I don't want to care what's on the wrist.

  • SBGX261 - 37mm high accuracy quartz. It's a bit dressier, it's a bit everyday, but it also means I don't need to worry about potentially needing to set the time whenever I reach for it. And GS is just so pretty.

  • BB54 - another 37mm. When it was first announced at W&W23, it did nothing for me. It took a while, but I now realise that was the beauty of it. The muted colours on the bezel, the lack of a red triangle and the clean bezel without the hash marks embody the ethos of the pieces I've grown to appreciate.

My watch roll is now full; full of my favourite boring pieces*

What about you guys? Do you like to balance loud and boring or do you skew to one side?

*realistically I probably have room for another since it's questionable whether the Casio belongs in a roll. I did however purchase (proudly) a 3 watch roll intentionally to keep the collection small.... let's see how long that lasts!

Casio doesn’t need a case. Black dial dress watch on a leather strap would complete the set for any occasion 👍

·

Boring watches are great. They’re also the ones I pick to wear all the time. Maybe that says more about me than the watch🤣

·

Is that the Rothwell watch roll? Does it naturally stay open like that?

I was considering a white dial watch actually, something like a Cartier tank for a bit of variety. But definitely something on leather

Nah, just a generic off Amazon. I flapped it open a bit further for the photo, but usually sits a bit more closed

Throw in a colorful wildcard chronograph and your set. IMO the Grand Seiko is dressy enough.

·

F91 doesn’t get old. It’s simple but elegant. I wear mine at home when relaxing. I also have a diver and a gmt.

What’s wrong with black?

Boring is my favorite color. And also blue

·

Love all three , can’t go wrong with black .

·

Black dials are my go-to color.

·

I Prefer classic styling rather than boring, thats what i keep telling myself anyway, with the side note one day I'll get a cool watch a fun watch maybe the black blancpain swatch 🙄🤣😂🤣

·

Classy

·

I always tell myself I need to add more colour to my very dark collection but when black goes with every outfit and scenario it’s hard to pry myself away from ‘boring’

·

I’m a bit boring too. I like it that way. 👌🏼

·

Just strap the 91w around the case itself.

I also im trying to do a 3 watch collection, one being my casio, as well. I even bought a 3 piece roll to try and slowly get used to it lol.

For me :

Casio royale

Islander skx013 homage

Traska commuter

Its very difficult though because I have a couple other pieces that are extras that I definitely dont want to get rid of but I dont consider the "main" collection. Or pieces that are on the chopping block for one reason or another

Black dials have also been my weakness, they are so versatile and classy. I recently picked up the traska commuter as my first light color dial to try and spice it up.

Good luck on keeping the small collection. I think its a great idea, and i like not having too many watches. With this hobby tho, it feels nearly impossible 😵‍💫

P.s. i love your grand seiko. I have my seiko sarb on the chopping block, but i adore seiko design. Your gs is a grail for sure 🤭

·

I tried on the BB54 and instantly fell in love.

I also bought a 3 watch roll.

Then a 9 slot display case...

·

Nothing wrong being boring like that it’s all about you what makes you happy. I’m the same way on some things. That’s not a boring watch collection each one has a interesting story. There’s variety class and style there. Boring would be if all the watches would be exactly the same. That would be a different subject Clone watch collection obsession.🤣

I think relentless 2024 overstimulation is pretty boring.

Overstimulation is overrated.

Black is almost always understated and classic. You don't see many orchestras with neon green or purple grand pianos.

Not yet my friend coming soon to a theatre near you 🙄😂
