Omega Dilemma!!

Ok so I visited my AD yesterday as you know, if you read my yesterdays NWA post… but also I was presented with a pre-owned Omega speedy sapphire sandwich!! The exhibition case back is to pretty I think it cal. 3861 at 42 I think…and this drove me to do some research… it was offered to me for $5,300…and when I was researching I was drawn to this 38mm speedy with cal.3330 but no exhibition case back but it’s new!! For 5k… I know most folks would go for the sapphire sandwich, a better movement yes! But seems like everyone and their mother has one 😂… but Ck out the 38mm nice GADA size…for a little less and NEW!

Which would you choose?!

Pics below for comparison…also ck out the 38mm in brown braclet is soooo sexy… as you know I’m leaning towards the 38mm… can you convince me to get the pre-owned sapphire sandwich?! Though that case back is soooo sexy that movement!! 🤤 a sandwich to eat ..😂😜

i think it is subjective matter and it depends on your taste, some people would care about exhibition caseback. but if i were you i would choose used one with open caseback, sure 38mm is a nice choice but who can resist this 😍😭

Yes that is a thing of beauty!! 🥰

Buy the one that speaks to you most. But since you ask, if the Professional fits the wrist it would be my choise. The price difference will soon be forgotten.

·

I am a massive fan of the Sapphire Sandwich, so that will get my vote short of one of the vintage pieces.

·

Personally, this is my decision-tree...

  • Step 1: Is my interest piqued by a watch? How a watch looks is my top criterion by a country mile - like, if I had to allocate 100 points to my decision-making, 70 points go to looks, 28 goes to reliability, 1 goes to heritage, and 1 goes to movement

  • Step 2: If a watch gets the green light after step 1, then next I try the watch on-wrist - does it fit? If it don't fit right, then it's a no-go

  • Step 3: Next is price. I look at the price and willfully ignore it

This is entirely idiosyncratic to me. But, given my decision-tree, here's how I would evaluate both watches.

Sapphire Sandwich

  1. Does the Moonwatch's looks appeal to me? No. Done

Speedmaster 38

  1. Does the 38's looks appeal to me? Yes

  2. Does the 38's size fit my wrist and feel good? Don't know. But, because it's got the caliber 3330, it's automatic, and thus has a thickness of 14.7mm!!! That is one thicc watch! I'd have to try it on-wrist, but given the specs, I doubt it would feel good on my wrist. The only watches I have that thick that feel good are titanium, whereby the thickness isn't an issue, because the lightweight material reduces the heft of the watch head. So, no. Done

Given all that, I end up buying the GS SBGE205, champagne dial, spring drive, GMT instead...

Image

... for $4,230 brand new from a Japanese professional dealer on Chrono24, given the strength of the dollar.

·

Mate… you said you were taking a break.

Just wait for @HotWatchChick69 to auction one later this year. And buy this in the meantime :-)

1 point to movement? But all GS must now be SpringDrive. Something smells fishy.

You know how this works…if you don’t have something enabling to say, don’t say anything at all.

(D) Seiko?

Saying that… it’s encouraging that’s he’s not crushing on a Seiko, so I think I’m having an influence.

that GS is a contender as well… good points!!

·

Nice looking Movement that's visible aside, you always mainly see the face. So be different and go with the 38 white. If it's comfortable, fits your wrist better and it makes your collection slightly different because EVERY motherfucker has got a bloody black speedy 😆 Go for the 38 hahaha Its cheaper and new aswell~

·

Don't buy either of them! The fact your asking, Says volumes about what you already know and are questioning.

Wait!

·
Fieldwalker

My man! I need you to commandeer my watch buying break!

It’s been over a month since I bought Sakura chan, so perhaps I’m doing it wrong? 🤔

I’m totally wrong person to ask, my last chrono got filled with salt water and was buried at sea 🌊. Not ever chronos for me. Also find speedies to be boring looking, so I’m double not qualified.

So here is my advice 😁

Get the open case back and wear the watch upside down! That movement looks amazing and would be the highlight of the watch for me. 🤩

Hahaha funny that’s exactly what I said to my AD … why can’t they just flip the watch upside down it would look better Muhahaha !!!

Oh man!! That’s GS is 🔥 I forgot you have it !!!

·
Porthole

I don’t do it for the fame…

No, you have too much integrity for that. But fame is your just reward for a job well done. Enjoy the bright lights and fanfare.

·

I'd say go for the new one. Everybody and their dog seems to own a basic Speedy Moonwatch. Go with something different, I'd say.

Dude! You forgot?! Not allowed 🚫!

I clearly haven’t been annoying you enough with ‘reminders’. So to utterly thread steal your original question for us: ENJOY 😆. BTW, torture worse than baby pix starts when Vancouvers’ cherry trees begin to pop

This is not my shot, just came up on an image search on Google. I wish I was this good.

Where will the watch spend most of its' time? No pun intended. My vote is, 1. what you like best on your wrist. And, 2. which do you personally like the looks of the most...as you'll be the one person that does that the most. Also, you do wear it on your wrist versus carrying it around and looking at the back side of it.

Honesty, it will spend most of its time flipped backwards in my watchbox lol..

Well, not the response I generally figured, but there you go. Perfect. The beauty of it all is that we each have that choice.

Funny, but I don't have a champagne dial GS... yet.

I have every other conceivable GS, just not that one, yet.

Image

It's hilarious, but I feel like a Mormon Missionary, but for my all-loving religion of Grand Seiko. I'm a GS Missionary.

Is it worth it? I mean, dude, for $4,230 you can get spring drive, GMT, and that gorgeous champagne dial??? Absolutely!!!

Image

Hilarious, but in another thread, just 3 minutes ago, I offered to sell someone my SBGE201, so that he could avoid sales tax and customs duties, etc., etc., all for the purpose of being a GS evangelist!

To you, brother, I say...

I have been looking hard at the Speedmaster 38 on that strap for a bit now . . . not sure if a Speedy is the way I want to go but if I do I think that is the one. The sandwich is beautiful, however, lots of speedys out there have the traditional black face . . . be different.

Funny thing is that the Grand Seiko watches keep leading me away saying "look at me, look how well I am made."
