Heya Crunchers - as you may have seen in previous, somewhat anxious, posts: last week I bid on a 1940's 18k rose gold Vacheron Constantin watch with the 453/2C calibre - and won.
And now it has arrived! Russian doll / boxes within boxes:
But there she is!
As advertised, thankfully. And running, after a couple of winds ๐ (just a tad noisier than most of my other watches - don't know whether that's normal for this era/calibre?)
On the wrist:
First impressions:
Very relieved that the watch is the same I bid on & it works!
Absolutely love the look. The silver dial, the small seconds, the outside hour/minute ring, the applied gilded roman numerals...in a beautiful 35 mm 18k rose gold case. Never figured myself for a gold-watch-wearer - but if done like this: head over heels
Dial has a lovely patina (but you have to look closely - which is a good thing)
The new leather strap is OK-ish; nothing special. Has a gold (colored) clasp, which is nice; but will replace strap soon.
Just one more ๐
Cheers!

Thx! Used Catawiki.
Looks very nice! Older vintage watches can be very loud, I've got a 1940s Eterna 852 which you can hear as soon as you move the watch anywhere near your head lol
That looks amazing. Iโve been eyeing a few vintage pieces, but honestly Iโm pretty scared of it. Especially onlineโฆ

yeah, this one (in an otherwise quiet environment) becomes audible from about 3-4 inches/10 cm distance. But that's not normally where my wrist is :-)
Very nice watch. Congratulations on your purchase. ๐ป
Beautifulโฆexcess noise may mean it needs oiling/service.

Wonderful in deed. I have two vintage Omegas that I love, maybe I should try another brand.
This is fantastic!!! Good lord I may have to start bidding in auctions. Glad it came as expected. Great win!
Congratulation to your new watch. It looks beautiful๐
Wow, very nice!
Great score, enjoy!
oh wow
Congratulations! That's beautiful.
Ooof! ๐ itโs too stunning!
Itโs absolutely beautiful! More pics if you can. Congratulations!
Very nice.

That is really nice. Where do you bid on these type of watches?

Excellent.

This one I'm pretty sure is a redial. If not a total fake, which is highly likely. Blobs of paint around the applied indexes, fuzzy print on the subdials. The "Antimagnetic"and "17 jewels" are misaligned, and the font used for these lines just cries "Bombay Special." Piaget wouldn't have committed that on the worst of Monday mornings possible.
I wish I had half the courage you displayed with this transaction. Iโm elated that it worked out for you. Itโs a beautiful piece. Enjoy it in the best of health.

Never heard of Catawiki, gonna check it out ๐๐ป
No lume
No water resistance
Older caliber movement
No bluetooth or solar battery
Very little shock resistance.
I mean really, what's the point, get yourself a G-Shock.
(Ok, got the jealous part out....)
Wearing a G-Shock right now. I am willing to trade with a vintage gold VC. I know, the things that I do for the watch community. ๐
This catwiki place is a dangerous place. I just spent a couple of hours browsing on it, and I didn't even realize how much time had passed. The WC got me into buying vintage watches. Now, I'm eyeing a vintage JLC on catwiki.
Note to self, ask the kids to go to a cheaper college.
Fantastic VC...looks amazing!
Huge fan of VC especially the vintage classics.
Here's one of mine from 1951 with the amazing spider lugs...
