Fortis? 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

Any thoughts on this brand? They seem like good tough watches with history … I’ve seen a few I really like … example this cool moderish fleiger watch

The guy from The Urban Gentry, I find him off-putting.

That said, the F-39 is a very cool looking watch, and if I didn't already have a DS30, I'd be tempted to pick one up.

I really like their designs - many of them remind me of some of the watches from Sinn that I really like.

FWIW, check out this post from @ChronoGuy regarding the Harwood automatic, as the article he references  mentions a connection with Fortis.

Maybe that’s why I dig them because I love sinn designs … I’ll check it out thanks

Watch some of TGV's YT videos...he is a huge fan of Fortis.

I have a vintage NOS 1950s Fortis Furora dress watch, but have not yet added one of their modern tool watches.

I agree that they have great designs and they have an excellent reputation.

For fun, here is the vintage Fortis I have...it's a real looker...

TGV has many Fortis videos. A good brand with history.

He was literally paid by Fortis to talk about Fortis...

I get that they have a cool history, and seem to make good watches, but we need to be clear about when people are being paid to say nice things.

True but he does have the Fortis Cosmonaut in his collection and was talking about it long before he recorded the advertorials.

I don't have a problem with someone getting paid to talk about a brand they really are a fan of and sharing a detailed history of the brand.

On the other hand, do we really think Ryan Gosling is a fan of Tag Heuer? Answer: Nope. He has given interviews about his watch collecting and there were no Heuers in the collection that I can recall before he became a brand ambassador. To me that's more problematic.

I used to really enjoy watching the videos from WatchChris before he sold out to any brand that was willing to pay him to promote it. His early videos were about his own passionate collecting and watches he purchased. It then devolved into any piece of shite that was willing to pay him for a video - I lost interest and moved on.

So many YT personalities are really no different than the talking heads on QVC or Home Shopping Network pitching the latest watch to purchase.

I prefer people like Caseback Tim who is really sharing his passion for watches, music, clothes, or his local German city. Honest and enjoyable.

I don't have a problem with paid reviews, they are a reality of the business. Cars, guns, knives, watches, shoes, etc., all have paid reviews.

My problem comes in when "reviewers" aren't transparent with their reviews. TGV was paid by Fortis to say nice things about Fortis, that should be something clearly declared every time he postes a video about Fortis after he was paid.

I almost got this one: The Amadee-20 special edition commemorating the Mars mission simulation conducted in the Negev desert.

Image

It had almost everything that l wanted and liked, including the mission patch that gave the sand blasted dial a bit of color just where it was needed. It even managed not to fall into the idiotic NATO strap trap. All was good until I read the specifications hiding at the bottom of the page and saw that it was 44mm in diameter.

44 f**ing mm. Because, yeah, everybody who will buy it intend to wear it over the sleeve of their space suit.

The Urban Gentry

·

meh... maybe they are good watches but looking at  their fliegers, the lug to lug is way too long imo. also their german ads on youtube with the wording about "toolwatches" put me so off... it seams so forced and unnatural that it is just cringe 😵‍💫

·

They have a decent history, the built quality is on a competitive level, but their modern pieces are way too large for me.

·

I don't know what a TGV is, but I've never heard anyone complain about the quality of their Fortis.  The designs aren't for me, but if you like them, go for it.

·

Who cares what a YouTuber says?

I like Fortis designs and strongly considered one like the OP posted, but the lugs are just too long.

·

Specifically on the F43, I think it’s really badass. It’s a modern robust take on the classic type xx. Between the beefy pushers and inset crystal, it really looks like it can take a good beating. That said, with its dimensions, you could also use it to give the beating. The thing is big and my wrist is no match haha

·

Thanks everyone … seems like the strong opinions are more about this tgv guy rather then about the watches 😂😂😂

they do seem big however but I have a medium size wrist so 42 isn’t monstorous on me … altho 40 is my sweet spot

I kindah like the modern flieger look … super into type a and b  lacos and stowas

ok, but he‘s a huge fan of the brand.

I believe they were in space with the Russians nice looking watch.

·

I love the Marinemaster M-40 especially in green, but I think it's at least 25% overpriced.

Virtually unknown in the US. Love my yellow B-42 Marinemaster. Nice product.

MasterControlDate

They have some nice looking watches, but most of them are too wide and too thick for my wrist unfortunately.

Check the new 39mm Flieger and 40 mm Marinemaster
