So a few years back I bought a Seiko PADI diver that turned out to be fake. Stuff I should have caught at the time but because of the circumstances, didn't. Owning the watch bugged me because it was a fake - at least on the surface. Underneath the caseback revealed a proper Seiko 4R36 movement. So while the hands and dial were fake, the engine was the real deal.

The case wasn't anything much special but it was without crown guards so it was pretty obvious where I'd need to go to get any satisfaction out of the watch itself. I had a contact of mine Source a new top hat Sapphire crystal, the proper hands and dial and did the mods to bring it to looking like a vintage 62MAS.

While it's not in constant rotation, it is still in rotation and wearing it doesn't make me want to hurt somebody. Bottom line, it's a modded watch even though the movement, dial and hands are OEM Seiko. Just like in the world of motorcycles, cars and anything else you can modify, you'll never get any of the money and time you put in to the thing back out.

Everybody has an opinion on mods but sometimes you do a mod just to wash the bad taste out of your mouth from a mistake.

I use mine for timing at the track. I love my mechanical chronos but when I really want accurate, I go to quartz.

More that it puts a watch be it a brand or type on my radar. Then I see how much of a hook is set. Right now I'm pretty happy with my collection. I'm looking of course (when do we not look?) but I've pretty much got all of my bases covered. I'm not really into the unobtanium type watches and I definitely have a comfort level regarding the dollar amount sitting on my wrist, which right now is below $5G. I just picked up a watch with a Valjoux 7751 in it. I'd sort of been looking on and off for a moonphase but nothing was really doing it for me and then this one popped up and it ticked a lot of boxes and it turns out its a fun piece to wear. But for the most part, I come here to see some cool watches and talk to people equally excited about the hobby.

I love my Arc, fantastic watch.

I do both. I've got a Mido Ocean Commander Ti that I really enjoy wearing. I love its lightness but I also have any number of 316L cased watches that I also love wearing (right now it's my Squale 1521 Blasted 50 atmos). There are times I want a watch that I barely feel on the wrist and other times, I want to feel that heft.

I mean everybody has their comfort level. I've got a Duro but I had to replace the mineral glass with sapphire as I marked it almost immediately. So that's a minus against it in my eyes. I wear it when I'm working in an environment where it could get a real kicking. If I break it, it's cheap enough that I'll just get another one. The fit is fine but I'll never be a fan of mineral glass.

Right now my favourite on my wrist is a Mido Ocean Commander in Titanium. It's a considerably more expensive watch but the fit and finish is great, it's light on the wrist and it has a great slide lock clasp so it's never too tight. It's also not the kind of watch that screams its value and I'm never bothered where and when I wear it.

The top end of my comfort level is my Speedy Pro Pre Moon. That's a chunk of change to wear on the wrist and pretty much as much as I'm comfortable with. When watches get into the zone where you could buy a luxury car or a house with, grail or not, it's outside my comfort zone.

I had a similar reaction to the book. Now the first time I heard The Sex Pistols, well that was a very different thing...
