Omega Seamaster 300m (black) Vs Tudor Pelagos 39

If you could pick only one what would it be and why? I have a 16cm wrist so leaning towards the Tudor.

Omega if it fits, and the only way to know is to try it on.

·

I think these are both brilliant pieces but I’d go Seamaster every day.

I own a 300m and it is my #1 and the Pelagius 39 is on the shortlist for my next purchase. The 300m feels like a classic to me. It’s sturdy, tested, iconic, and i love the Omega steel.

If you could only keep one, which one would stay?

Funny you asked… I’m actually debating this at the moment, as I’m trying to see if I can let one go, and I chose to put the SMP on the trading/selling table first than the pelagos…

The tudor perhaps is because the case meterial of the pelagos is so light and 39mm just wearability wise, you can have it on all day long and your wrist won’t get tired… so I guess I just answered my own question… argh… but the SMP has more wrist presence and name plus the wavy dial… and also my wife said she likes it sooo don’t know…. Don’t know… 🤯

SMP all day, every day. On paper, the Pelagos specs out as the perfect watch but at least for me, on wrist, it was meh. No character, soulless if you will.

The Omega has a funny way of fitting even smaller wrists. I have a 16.5 cm wrist and it works. The only reason I haven’t grabbed one is I hope they come out with a 40mm case which would be perfect for me.

That funny how that works. It’s the watch to go until your wife finds out. My wife is doesn’t pay much attention to my watches for the most part. But I guarantee if or when I want to sell one she say oh no not that one.

I thought I was the only one! 😀

I had the same choice and went with the SMP. I just think it will stand the rest of time better than the Pelagos.

Might just be me but the titanium P39 felt a bit too light and flimsy. I guess I’m not a big fan of titanium in general especially not that grade. The titanium Zenith I think is grade 5 and that was much better.

Do you have a smaller wrist? Originally I was thinking the BB 54 but would prefer a more modern tool watch instead of vintage inspired.

What size wrist do you have?

I know right!! I literally sent her a text to get me the ref # for the SMP on the card, I sent her image of the watch … of course one of many wrist shots!! And she said “ oh! But I like this one!!” … 🤯

Yeah if they released a 38 and 40 today I'm sure they would get so many more sales!

7.25 to 7.50 after cheeseburger and fries and pizza

Grade 2 is definitely not “indestructible”, as the AD’s love to say.

At one point she’ll tell me I have to many watches. So I’ll respond, “Ok I’ll sell some”. She’ll say, “You’ve never sold anything you’ve collected in your life. Why are you going to start now”. I’ll say “Because I have to many watch?”. She’ll shake her head, conversation over. The next watch will show up. She’ll be nice watch honey. I don’t get it but I love her.

If you want to wear on a bracelet, go with the Pelagos. I feel like the current generation of the SMP300 doesn’t fit well on smaller wrists.

The Pelagos 39, on the other hand, fits like a SKX013, and I think is the only watch that ever replace my SKX in my collection.

Until Omega gets their sh*t together and update this awful bracelet with a proper tapering one and a modern t-fit clasp equivalent that should be expected at this price range, I will say the Pelagos is a much better value watch.

If you have a small wrist, the SMP will likely overhang, and the bulky bracelet will make the watch look too big and heavy. As opposed to the smaller and lighter Pelagos 39 that will wear more comfortable in every way.

With all that being said... Yeah the SMP looks so much better 😍

Agree on all points. SMP300 can work on smaller wrists if on rubber, but to me, the whole point of the SMP300 is the bracelet.

·

If the price difference wasn’t an issue, I would pick the Omega. I would actually choose the white dial Omega, but I would still pick the black dial Omega over the Tudor.

·

If money is no issue I’d go for that SMP. And the Pelagos.

Why must you choose one.

·

The Seamaster is a chunky beast especially on the bracelet and the Pelagius being Titanium will be a more comfortable wear, plus you will save yourself a few quid!

·

I was faced with a similar decision, but I was going back and forth between the Omega and the FXD. Because I don't love the Seamaster bracelet, I would have been wearing it on a NATO or rubber strap almost all the time, so the fact that the FXD didn't have a bracelet wasn't an issue.

The one thing that I felt when trying on the Seamaster, and to an extent I get this with all Omegas, is that the way it's polished and finished makes it feel dressier. I probably wouldn't wear the Seamaster with a suit, but it would work way better than the Tudor. I wouldn't have any issue wearing it with a sport coat. The dressiest outfit I have worn the Tudor with is chinos, a short sleeve collared shirt, and loafers. And even then I put it on a navy blue shell cordovan strap.

If I had a one or two watch collection, the Omega would make a ton of sense. But I felt the Tudor worked better as the casual everyday watch, since I have other watches that can much better work with business casual to semi formal (Nomos Club Campus and Tudor 1926) and watches that can work from semi formal up to black tie (1926 and vintage gold JLC).

The caveat being that the NTTD Seamaster would have been even better, but that would have required expanding the budget a lot.

·

if it were my money (and my 17.2cm wrist)…

But, it ain’t my money or my wrist.

So let us know what you decide, and pics when you get it!

·

Either is great. I have the Omega SMP 300 mid size. 90s watch. I found the new ones too large. My wrist is 165 cm. If both look OK, then the Omega

·

Both are great. However, one thing I haven’t read in the other comments yet: Lugwidth.

Omega SMP: 20mm – Tudor Pelagos 39: 21mm

Might be a point if you already own several 20mm aftermarket straps.

Otherwise, it’s pretty much taste. Lug to lug the Pelagos is only 1mm smaller, so I can’t really relate to the people who say the SMP is a huge watch. From what I have seen from Tudor so far, the Pelagos might even look thicker from the side, as the Omega case is not as “linear”.

Omega

Try both, you never know until it's on your wrist. I once thought the blackbay 58 would be the watch for me until I tried it. Not to throw another possible choice in ....I recently tried a Sinn u50t ....omg that fit and comfort is perfect ... 11mm thick and 500m wr and a bezel that feels like you are turning a turret on a high end rifle scope of Leica camera.

What didn't you like about the BB58? That's also something I have been considering as well as the BB54. Yeah definitely got to try them all on in the local AD.

·

I was between the FXD and the 300. I went with the 300 heritage. I still want a titanium diver but for my daily the 300 won out.

I have 17cm wrists. I just felt the dial was too small. Like the ratio between dial and bezel made the watch too dainty looking. I ended up with a speedy 57...I know not even a diver but I was looking for my first luxury watch to celebrate my 40th.

·

I would be inclined to pick the Pelagos since it's something you don't see in the wild that often compared to other divers. But both are great options
