Do you bring your expensive Diver to the Ocean?

I don’t own an expensive Diver. Mainly because, I know I would never bring it to the Ocean (or beach) with me. I know I would be too afraid to scrach, damage it, or lose it. I don’t want that concern when I’m enyoyiing a day in water.

I have my Turtle and my Russian, to Scuba 🤿 and lay in the beach. They look good and I don’t really mind if something happend to them.

But, I always wonder if people that own a Submariner (to name the big one) actually bring in to the water 🌊. Do you?

I don't have a sub but I've used my longines hydroconquest many times for beach, swimming, snorkeling etc and no worries (I've not got much more expensive ((to me)) than that.

·

I take my Seamaster in the ocean all the time.

·

If I had one, I would not...maybe that's why I don't have one in the first place.

·

Expensive is relative I suppose. My most expensive watch is a diver, and I have taken it to the ocean to snorkel. Would I still do it if I my most expensive diver was a Rolex? I would hope so, but who knows

·

The watch I have taken into the water the most is my Casio Edifice EFV-100d and I have no issues with that.

·

Bringing an expensive luxury watch to play in the sand and the waves, is akin to off-roading with this...

You could, I suppose... but why would you?

·

Just came back from the beach. Always wear it, that's what it was made for. It's insured, so I enjoy it.

·

I would and have worn any steel or ceramic "expensive" divers as long as they aren't on a leather strap, I do not wear my gold or platinum divers to the beach

·

I don’t own a sub, but I do own a Rolex GMT and Tudor BB58 and have worn both into the ocean and swimming pool many times. They’re built to be waterproof to a certain depth. I do immediately clean the watches when I get back, to remove any salt on the watches.

Oh, I defiantly disagree with that, your paying a lot and taking it to the place it was designed and built for!

I use my most expensive watch (which is a dive) at the beach for snorkling, jet skiing, swimming etc and had no issues and get a lot of enjoyment with it.

The Mrs was really nervous when I first jumped in the pool with it, saying omg what happened if it got water damaged? (My answer is simple, id take it back! If Ive spent thousands on a diver and it can't cope in the pool I've been ripped off. I'd be more concerned taking a cheap watch in the pool as it's more likely to be damaged)

I would say to use your picture, having an expensive luxury diver and not talking it too the beach is a little bit like having that expensive race car and not taking it to the track and just driving it on the work commute stuck in traffic 😂

It's what they're made for. Now being the weirdo who's taking pictures of his wrist is a whole nother story.

3900m water resistance? That watch is made for diving with a submarine, and when that thing implodes and the water kills you all, one day the watch might still be found in full working order, so that your relatives can enjoy it.

·

I'm really interested with that specific Vostok, does the bezel clicks when you turn it?

Agree with this assessment. Divers are meant to be taken into the water. Take them into their natural habitat.

·

Both of my Subs, my Seamaster and every other water resistance rated watch goes in the ocean (when air was diving yes that too) the pool, lakes, rivers etc. All of mybwayches are insured. Why not? Just use them for what they were built for.

LOL 😆! I think the comparison is taking the Lambo to the track as that's what it's made for. The Lambo is overbuilt for Coffee N Cars but made for the track. Dive watches are overbuilt for the desk dive or jacuzzi plunge. Why not let these watches actually see some salt water? My son wore his SKX for three months straight. He finally tossed on the Titanium Promaster Diver Echo-Drive I gave him for his birthday last year. Both watches see a few hours in the ocean and then swim practice 5 to 6 days a week. He tells me all the time he will soon be upgrading in my watch box LOL

Don't let the tail wag the dog. If you buy it, own it.

So unless we're talking about vintage pieces which have lost their sealegs, it seems an awful shame to keep a diver out of the water and waste all that R&D you've paid for. It's like buying a horse and locking it in the stable.

I disagree with the offroad lambo analogy - Your Lambo is built to be tracked*, in exactly the same way that your Diver is meant to dive.

*(and then towed away after over-heating)

Dude, pretty soon you’re not gonna have any watches left in your watch box!

·

I wouldn’t even consider bringing my cheap ones 😂 The only one I trust to take near water is my g-shock

LOL you know it! Today he still is wearing his own gear in the ocean. This is the drive to Zuma

I couldn't disagree more. That car wasn't designed to go off-road.

It would be more similar to buying a supercar and never revving to redline or taking a 1g+ turn. That's what it was designed for, like diver watches being designed to go in the water or to the beach. To not use a car, or watch, or any other item for its intended purpose because you're fearful of breaking it is sort of a waste in my opinion.

Now, if you're referring to this car instead, we can agree:

Aww that's a bit sad, gonna feel less satisfying to play with the bezel

But damn, that colour sure looks fun for a dive watch

It is worth it, trust me.

·
ChronoGuy

Nope...I use my Aragons at the beach and in the pool...

You shouldn't really be taking an expensive watch into the water unless you've had it pressure tested first. Usually you need to pressure test after two years of the watch being produced. You really shouldn't risk your expensive watch on a potentially faulty seal.

BTW - love the Vostok...I went with the bumble bee approach for my yellow one...

Oh man I love it!!! Nice strap 😍

Never doubt it one bit, owned one with paratrooper dial, but haven't got the diver

If you need to insure it then its probably to expensive to take it in the ocean lolololo

Maybe LOL! Of course the dive gear is insured as well 😉 Plus you and the watch are on more danger on dry land. This is a pic of my last visit to an AD a week ago. These three armed guards open the door for me every time. I feel very VIP and well taken care of while I'm there
