After wearing watches as a kid, a fifteen year hiatus followed and I only started wearing a watch again at age thirty. I started out with a quartz Frederique Constant slimline, just to see how I'd like to wear a watch again. With the slimline fitting perfectly underneath the cuffs in the winter, a 'summer' watch quickly followed with the Casio Protrek PRW-7000-8JF.
Nearly five years followed wearing those watches as a two watch collection, with the Frederique Constant as my daily beater. Until a YT video from Animagraffs about mechanical watches came across my path that is...
Being pulled fast and deep into the rabbit hole, I was quick to drop the Frederique Constant in favor of a Junghans Max Bill automatic. And by virtue of that swap, my first mistake was made in the collecting journey. Not being the sellers remorse that kicked in, but the buyers remorse instead. I preferred the Nomos Orion over the Junghans Max Bill, I just didn't have a clue how to explain to my wife I'd spend €2,000.- on a watch after wearing a €300.- watch for five years.
The Max Bill was quick to leave as I could not look at it while not thinking about the Nomos. However, instead of buying the Nomos, I sold the Casio Protrek and purchased a Damasko DK32 instead.
What followed were a green dial Seiko Baby Alpinist that did not survive the honeymoon phase and an awesome birthday-watch, the Seiko 7434-7008. I've also purchased a Casio GW-5000U-1ER, the rectangular G-Shock model and a Brew Metric with the retro dial (that got stuck on my wrist since, as it wears so comfortably). Last watch to enter the collection was a Tudor FXD, to some extent financed by parting with the Damasko as that had too little going on to remain interesting over a longer amount of time.
Also have this super awesome astrolabe from Thom Rozendaal shown in the picture (picture isn't made by me), that is specified to my latitude. As well as an 1/10 seconds stopwatch from Junghans that I use for my daily filter coffee.
Hi everybody, Want to quickly introduce myself. Name is Erik, thirty five years old and from the Netherlands. After wearing watches as a kid, a fiftee...
I'm a fan of Grand Seiko, their attention to detail and the spring drive movement, but have yet to see something that I'd consider making it into my collection. For me, a snowflake dial in a SBGW289 case, with the manual 9R31 movement that comes on a tapering bracelet would be the holy grail :)
Joined Watch Crunch after the last giveaway and after seeing you as a guest to the Worn & Wound podcast. Your video content is superb and a real addition to the Youtube market environment!
I think Watch Crunch is a great platform and I had a blast participating in the tournament (thank you AllTheWatches!). I was rooting for Brew, but I might be biased as I'm expecting my Metric - Retro dial to be delivered tomorrow ☺️
Love also what Farer is doing however and do believe they have already established themselves more through a bigger and more diverse offering. Good luck with the give away everyone!
I'm into pilot watches. For me, Damasko hits the sweet spot with regards to value for money (when it comes to automatic watches).
