After wearing watches as a kid, a fifteen year hiatus followed and I only started wearing a watch again at age thirty. I started out with a quartz Frederique Constant slimline, just to see how I'd like to wear a watch again. With the slimline fitting perfectly underneath the cuffs in the winter, a 'summer' watch quickly followed with the Casio Protrek PRW-7000-8JF.
Nearly five years followed wearing those watches as a two watch collection, with the Frederique Constant as my daily beater. Until a YT video from Animagraffs about mechanical watches came across my path that is...
Being pulled fast and deep into the rabbit hole, I was quick to drop the Frederique Constant in favor of a Junghans Max Bill automatic. And by virtue of that swap, my first mistake was made in the collecting journey. Not being the sellers remorse that kicked in, but the buyers remorse instead. I preferred the Nomos Orion over the Junghans Max Bill, I just didn't have a clue how to explain to my wife I'd spend €2,000.- on a watch after wearing a €300.- watch for five years.
The Max Bill was quick to leave as I could not look at it while not thinking about the Nomos. However, instead of buying the Nomos, I sold the Casio Protrek and purchased a Damasko DK32 instead.
What followed were a green dial Seiko Baby Alpinist that did not survive the honeymoon phase and an awesome birthday-watch, the Seiko 7434-7008. I've also purchased a Casio GW-5000U-1ER, the rectangular G-Shock model and a Brew Metric with the retro dial (that got stuck on my wrist since, as it wears so comfortably). Last watch to enter the collection was a Tudor FXD, to some extent financed by parting with the Damasko as that had too little going on to remain interesting over a longer amount of time.
Also have this super awesome astrolabe from Thom Rozendaal shown in the picture (picture isn't made by me), that is specified to my latitude. As well as an 1/10 seconds stopwatch from Junghans that I use for my daily filter coffee.
