Original vs version 2

Now that there is a new lunar Pilot coming out do you think there will be more of less demand for the first version? I’m reminded of the citizen nighthawk and how I prefer the original version over the newer one. Do you think most people will prefer lunar 1 or lunar 2?

It all depends on wrist size. I'm very happy with mine on my 8in wrist.

Enjoy that watch!

Cheers!

Well, isn't Bulova still selling the "original version" anyway? I don't really see the demand of this watch changing much - as in, this watch wasn't really that highly demanded to begin with outside some afficianados like the folks on this forum. I still love mine, but I'm not thinking that I can sell this for more than what I bought it for or even close to it.

My Dinner Plate, I mean my Lunar Pilot on my 7 inch wrist. You can see the lugs essentially spanning my wrist unlike the lugs within the wrist of @jcwatch

I remember when people started asking for it. I kept telling myself that "It's not a problem. I love my pilot enough not to care. Why would I want to get it smaller??" ..... Then they announced it with pictures.

As I looked deep into my mind to find the reasoning and logic, I told my self that if I could get my hands on a new pilot, I would.

BUT .... not for the current price ... It's gonna be hard to resist when it goes down about half price.

I also Have both Nighthawks and even though I love them both, I really love the original. The original's bezel crown feels smoother and I like the crown at 8, the applied indices, screw down main crown and the bracelet.

Oh, the bond strap looks great on it. Never thought of that. 👍

That’s true. Then general population has never even heard of this watch. And I’m in the same boat, it fits my 7 inch wrist but just barely. It could be a couple mm smaller but I love the dial.

Good point. I got my lunar on a good deal. The retail price is too high for me. Eventually the new version will come down in price too. Although it may be years before that. I’m patient. 😏

I'm on the same boat with you. I'm willing to wait years for the used price to drop.

As for the size, I have to remind myself that I used to walk around with a Panerai on my wrist. Compared to a Panerai, my Lunar Pilot is right sized.

Between the size reduction and the date delete, I’m sure the new version will have it’s fans.

In my opinion, the size is part of its personality, it’s an aviation watch that makes sure you know you’re wearing it, sort of like a vintage-sized flieger. Plus, I think the bead-blasted finish of the original really screams “aerospace tool watch”. In either case, it’s awesome Bulova is making this modern classic accessible to more enthusiasts.

I was hoping that the new release might impact the price of the old larger ,( bead blasted ) version. It might and as the new one is full polish I would go with a cheaper bead blasted dinner plate tbh.

Well said. I understand people wanting a smaller version ( even though it’s basically a flieger). But Why do you think people will like the lack of a date? On an automatic I can see dropping the date but on a quartz I’d prefer to have it.

Bead blasted dinner plate. 😀. That was funny.

Prefer the case finish on the original.

Really just an educated guess to be honest; since it seems like folks who aren’t fans of date windows are more likely to pass on a watch that has one—“preserving symmetry” and all that, haha . They probably have a point, but even though my preference is pro-date, it doesn’t weigh heavily into my purchasing decisions. I don’t think I’ve ever said, “…if only it had a date window…” But to each their own 🍻

C'mon brother, everyone is doing it. You should join the bandwagon.
