Original post:

And now for something a little different. I've been homaging @Mr.Dee.Bater 's wildly successful charitable donations for some time now with some success (thank you @JackieMoon_LMS , @matiss , @rowiphi , and @DeeperBlue for hitting it out of the park with their winning bids to support causes near and dear to my heart).

But I've been drafting off of the wake of someone far more successful than me for long enough. It's time for an original design.

And so, I present to you the (near as I can tell) FIRST WatchCrunch charitable raffle.

The basic idea is you make a donation to a charity of your choice (501(c)(3)) and get entered to win my watch!

And to whet the appetite, please see, for your review, the Wise Adamascus AD8 with the stunning red dial.

Why should you want this watch?

This is dress diver perfection. Two straps included. A lovely presentation box. It's the complete package.

And don't take my word for it.....

Why am I giving it away?

Aside from my increasingly unsubtle attempts to encourage charitable endeavors among my fellow man, I've never met a dive watch that I didn't immediately want to buy and then three weeks later wanted to sell.

I just don't think I'm a dive watch kinda guy. I know, tar and feather me later. But first, get out your credit card and donate and post the receipt.

So what do you need to do?

Make a $15+ donation to the charity of your choice (anonymized receipt posted in the chat) to enter for one chance to win.

Bonus points if you make a pitch as to why your charity RAWKS and I might throw in an additional donation to the winner.

Once we get all the names, I'll toss everyone into a random number generator and pop out thhe winner.

FAQ

What do you get? The watch comes with original packaging, box, papers, warranty card, manual, strap tools and microfiber cloth, as well as both straps along with the warm and fuzzy feeling that you’ve made a difference in the world. Also, depending on your jurisdiction, a charitable tax break.

Is this audited? Nah. You're just gonna have to take my word for that I run a fair lottery. Given that I don't stand to make any money on it, I think I'm pretty reliable.

Any charity? For US folks, call it any 501(c)(3) organization. For any non US organization, it will be the sole call of the operator of this charitable lottery (me).

And you'll ship anywhere? Anywhere I can, on me. North Korea, Iran, Russia are probably a no go. You know who you are.

Donations due by 12PM Pacific Time October 20th, 2023. Raffle will be run at that time.

This is one of my favorite charities. Definitely under-represented but they don’t waste a lot of $$ on advertising. Build and donate custom homes for disabled veterans.

My favorite passage from my favorite book of all time, Hawaii by James Michener

There was a long silence as the brothers looked down at the scarred city, visible now and then through the low clouds of smoke that hung in the valleys.  On the ocean beyond, the long surf came rolling in, impartially as it had for millions of years, and the Kee boys somehow understood what their mother was urging them to do.  From despair hope rises; from defeat victory.  There are only three bad years, followed by six wonderfully rich ones.  The city is burned but it must be rebuilt.  The family is nearly destroyed, but if there is one man left alive, or one woman, it must go on.  Night falls with the smell of destruction, but day rises with the smell of wet mortar...and building resumes.

I’m not afraid to admit reading that passage made me tear up a little bit.

Sorry it's not in English but here's mine. It's a humanitarian charity for Palestinian refugees for food.

Edit: it's about $21 and some change.

Syria too right? I remember reading about Peduli Insan during the beginnings of the Syrian civil war.

I have many many very complex feelings about Gaza and Israel right now (though it's mostly just sadness about lives lost).

But food in bellies I can always get behind.

Read the book if you haven't. It's my comfort reading when I feel lost.

Yup. They donate to food drives & emergency supplies (clothing and such) everywhere in the Middle East and Afghanistan.

I haven’t read it before…I’ll need to add it to the list. When I feel lost, I close my eyes and think of something like this

I was originally going to post the winners in the original thread, but it just got super unwieldy, so see the link to the separate post below!

I got a request today from JNF to contribute to the Israel Emergency Fund. Their website says “We are easing their pain and trauma through temporary housing, fire and rescue and civil defense equipment, respite activities, psychological support, and more.”

Made another $50 donation in honor of @Edge168n
