My favorite brand is controversial 😬

Hey everyone! I hope you’re all having a good week so far.

So there it is. My favorite watch brand is the butt of a lot of jokes, and one of the most uninteresting brands to the average watch enthusiast… TAG Heuer… and it always has been, but I refused to accept it until a couple years ago… why did I wait so long to accept that fact?

Well… because just that… it’s the butt of a lot of jokes, they don’t get a lot of interest from fellow enthusiasts. The lack of interest comes from lots of quartz options in the entry level models, bad marketing, bad value retention, entry level models are a bit over priced, lots of quartz options, did I mention the abundance of quartz? 😃

But I seem to be one of those weird people who appreciates TAG Heuer for what they are. I’m just as excited to hear about early Heuer racing history, as I am hearing about TAG’s ceramic turbos, that had nothing to do with Heuer. I find TAG just as fascinating as Heuer, and I really appreciate what TAG Heuer has done with the brand.

I’ve always loved the sport watch designs they had throughout the 90s and early 2000s such as the 1500, 2000, 3000, 4000, 6000, SE/L, and F1 watches, and have built my collection around them, but it took me way too long to accept that TH was my favorite brand, because I was so caught up in what the community was saying about the brand, and their watches that I disregarded them for too long.

I’ll get the flame suit on!

Anyone else love a brand that everyone else seems to hate? Rolex doesn’t count 😜

A Tag Heuer Formula 1 quartz was my first luxury watch! The history of the brand can't be ignored! Great watches!

·

I love the brand and Tag was my very first “luxury” watch … no hate from me all ❤…

·

Ha! Thanks I just got a Tag Badge commenting … woot!!

i love TAG. SEL was my first dream watch and now I can afford one!

·

No shame in my game! I love Tag Heuer! I have an F1 in my collection.

·

I don't see any shame. Shame on others who can't appreciate a good watch.

Enjoy that watch!

Cheers!

That’s a sweet! SE/L! And still looking fresh!

Never understood the TAG hate. Nice watch.

·

No hate here, and as Samuel @pj3c46 said, I've never understood any negative bias towards the brand. They seem like quality watches and their racing affiliation is attractive to me.

I'm a big Invicta fan. But not their weird stuff, only their diver line, like the Pro- and Grand Divers. Wonderful quality, reasonably priced NH35A watches. I can only imagine how they'd do if they started making more "normal" watches, but they hang their hat on large, outlandish models. Oh well.

Here's one of my thirteen Grand Divers:

But I don't let the haters bug me, it's my money. 😉

[Also, I'm a cat dad x10. 🐱 7 inside and 3 ferals.]

Nothing wrong with TAG. They make a solid watch -- I'm not sure why they get quite as much hate as they do...

Yes I know how you feel. I love Armitron and until recently everyone slept on Armitron. Their recent retro line of quartz watches have seem to renewed a lot of peoples interest in the brand.

One watch that I will never sell is the Tag Heuer Link Chronograph automatic. It was given to me during a very special event in my life and as such, it will never leave the collection. Enjoy your watches without concerning yourself what others may think of them.

I also really like Tag Heuer, with all the racing heritage.

I just bought a Carrera Chrono Calibre 1887 from Japan, it's by far my most exclusive piece.

Even with the controversy of the movement.

·

Tag Heuer form me, was my exposure to luxury watch brands... So far I have a Link with gold bezel, an Aquaracer with a Calibre S, a F1 from early 2000s, a Microtimer, a Professional from the 90s, and a Red Formula 1 from the 2000s... The love is there, even if now I rather use others in the collection

·

To be completely honest, I do like the design and history that comes with the brand, but the problem I have with it is the logo. I don’t know why but to me it just looks like something out of a claw machine. In my opinion, a little redesign wouldn’t hurt them. I do love the aqua racer. One of the nicest looking divers in my opinion.

No one mentioned the glassbox! One of the first new tags that I like!

My dad’s first ‘nice’ watch was a mid nineties Professional 200 quartz, black dial. Similar to the bottom picture. I love it. They still make some very nice stuff. I do need to find extra links for that bracelet though.

·

I'm with you here. I love the brand. Got my first TAG a couple of years ago, the Formula 1 quarts and it has gotten a lot of wrist time. Put a black NATO strap on it a little while ago, matching the black dial.

I added the Carrera Caliber 5 to my collection recently and I absolutely love it.

Haters def gonna hate but I love my TAG Aquaracer. 43mm is very comfortable, orange dial looks rad and the watch is built really well. It actually gets more wrist time than my Tudor North Flag since it is on a bracelet!

I'm so close to buying this one. Just agreed on the pice with the seller. I love orange, and I love #tagheuer I already own Carrera Calibre 1 and 16, and when searching for an orange dial on chrono24 this was the one that caught my eye.

I can help you find some extra links if you need! If you pm me and send me the reference number of the watch and bracelet, I can search eBay for extra links that aren’t a total rip off.

There is simply no watch on the planet that makes me smile as much as the Tag Heuer formula one WAC111a that my parents bought me over 20 years ago.

When I put in on it's like wearing my comfy slippers, or sitting in my chair, the bracelet is the most comfortable I've ever worn.

Will it ever be possible for me to love any watch more. Unlikely my old friend.

Nice tag!!

Hahaha… the dark side is powerful…

I love tag too! In the end of the day wear what YOU love, it doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks , you don’t have to try to impress anyone, too many watch snobs out there! I’m happy to see anyone from an AP to a Casio, the only snobbery from me is when I see people wearing fashion watches ! 😫🙈

·

My BIL has a Tag. His looks nice but I never really gave it a close look.

·

This just came in …

My first luxury watch was the Aquaracer Professional 200, I love the brand. I try not to care about what other people say about it.

·

A lot of people just parrot what they’ve read elsewhere and some of those weren’t even around at the time of the quartz crisis and what unfolded thereafter.

Tag Heuer make great watches at all price points, sure the Formula 1 has poor clasps, no anti- reflective coatings and consists mainly of quartz movements, but so what. Their heritage even post Heuer remains strong, just enjoy whatever floats your boat and let others build up that special relationship with their AD buying watches they don’t want to get the one they do.😁

The formula was and currently is my first luxury watch as it is a gift from my dad and I love it. It does suck that tag is usuall the butt if the joke more often than not but you can’t ignore the history and their other great watches. I do think they could calm down with the quartz a bit but at the same time it allowed me to get my first luxury watch at 18 so I’m not mad at it 🤷🏾‍♂️
