Is it just me, or is Longines crushing it in 2023?

The new Conquest models giving Omega AT a run for their money.

New moon phase editions of the Flagship in 38.5mm.

And now their Master series with Breguet numerals, shrunk to 38.5mm with salmon dial and small seconds (image above courtesy of Monochrome).

I'm finding lots to like here and impressed that their pricing continues to feel fair while many competitors' offerings seem to be ramping up dramatically.

It's not typical that any marque puts out more than one or two new models a year that turn my head but Longines are knocking it out of the park in 2023. Anyone else similarly impressed?

Yeah, I definitely feel like they’re turning the corner now with so many great releases as well as swatch group pushing omega prices up. It’s giving longines some breathing room to flex their creativity!

Over-sizing was their Achilles heel for years and now it seems they have sorted that out I'm frankly worried for my wallet. The Master pictured in 38.5mm sounds like a total home run. This is like the 'lux' version of the Baltic micro-rotor and has me eyeing the watch box for some sacrifices...

·

Swatch group realising more mid size options are great and Longines is one of the brands that needs to sort out their cases sizes 👌🏽

·

Now if only we can agree on how to pronounce the name

·

Yep def lot of great releases by longines. The 40mm chrono they released last few years have long lug to lug 51 to 53mm. If only that shrinks a bit and get rid of the date like the recent moonphase and this salmon dial one, i think they will be killing it. Oh and the longines big eye chrono too pls :)

Yes.

It's not just you!

·

They sure are. They are on a roll.

·

Longines is upping it's game

·

Yup, this is all the dress watch you need. I've long been eyeing a Grand Seiko SBGW231 as a one-and-done dress watch but this looks like it might be a more characterful (and cheaper) way to go...

·

This must be a very recent release? I don't see it on their website. I checked from getting all excited haha.

So far I've only seen coverage by Monochrome here. Seems to be hot off the proverbial press.

Yes, I’m with you here. The Big Eye in titanium is gorgeous and I’ve been meaning to try one in person as I hear the lightweight makes the L2L less of an issue. I think the Record released last year is more like 50mm L2L so better but still a little on the long side. This spate of smaller sized classics - Flagship, Master collection - bodes well for some more modestly-sized chronos. Longines! Are you listening??

@solidyetti Long John’s?

More like Long Gene.

@solidyetti Long John’s?

Yup, saw this but work crept up. Didn't just wanna blow in here and mention it without reading up on #Long-Johns.

I literally have no frame of reference for whether they are killing it or not.

The only thing of theirs I've ever seen is a diver at the base exchange that was like 44mm+.

Edit: Grammar

I've said this in another thread, I can't praise them. They are simply releasing the watches they should have made to begin with. They are just fixing their own mess.

·

Certainly making others in the range look boring.

·

I'm getting strong Baltic vibes, which is great. Now I know Longines didn't crib anything. Their pedigree speaks for itself. But it sure reminds me of a Baltic, which I think is gorgeous.

·

I don't like the pan shape dial. Too dull.

·

Longines is a great brand with fantastic history, and I think the latter half of 2023 is gonna have some more pretty good releases. Hopefully it can get more people into the brand!

I agree to some extent - especially with the Master which as a dress watch was clearly too large at 40mm. But I think most marques are guilty of this - Tudor Ranger is too big at 39mm, Hamilton KFM lugs are too long, etc, etc, etc. - but Longines are iterating and fixing things and seem to be listening to the community, so I (for one) appreciate that.

Because you don't like pan dials full stop, or becauy this is less interesting than a faceted vintage Omega?

·

I think I will be buying this one.

·

Longines have been “crushing it” for years… it’s Longines.

They do seem to be coming out with better models, and to be positioning themselves as Omega's "Tudor".

The new conquest sport models appear to be aimed at buyers in the market for an Aqua Terra shades, but I don't see them taking away any sales or "giving them a run for their money". Although the design is good I find that it's pretty generic and just short of being really great. The problem to me is that they're mid tier in price and features and I'm an all or nothing kind of customer. I think there are lower cost options that have more personality, as well as higher priced options with better style and a more respected name. If I bought one, I'd likely wish I would have spent less on something different or just saved up and gotten a new or used Omega.

Interesting notion, re: Longines being to Omega as Tudor is to Rolex. I'd like to see an interview with a Swatch rep and get their take on that.

Appreciate your stance on the brand and know what you mean as there are certain marques I avoid on the same basis. For me, Longines occupy a similar place to Hamilton in that I find a lot of their pieces appeal to me and the (relatively) low price is a bonus. I get as much enjoyment from my Hamilton Murph 38mm or Longines Spirit 37mm as I do from Tudors and Grand Seikos.

Just hope the lugs ain't too long. 🤣
