New, smaller Doxa (39mm) - what are you thinking about this?

So Doxa have just released the Sub 200T, a 39mm x 41mm x 10.7mm version of one of their most iconic designs.

I never owned a Doxa despite admiring them for their designs and history, largely due to preferring a smaller watch so this is tempting, especially given the competitive pricing (~£1500 depending on bracelet or FKM configuration).

However... Despite liking a smaller watch, I know from experience I'm not necessarily on board with a smaller strap. Some of the smaller GS Elegance watches are great but the straps felt dainty to the point of almost insubstantial. The lug width on this is 18mm which makes me think this might feel a little flimsy.

How about you? Any excitement out there for the continued smaller dive watch trend?

The dial colour is great and it looks fab on the matching green rubber strap - perhaps that version makes more sense than the bracelet which could look a bit fussy in the smaller size?

·

Love it. Waiting to see in the metal before I buy, though.

·

i wonder how small the actual dial will be since the diameter is measured with the case included or am i wrong?

I believe 39mm is the measurement across the diameter of the dial so this is a true 39mm (though on a dive watch you're counting a substantial bezel so if 'dial' means crystal then it may appear relatively small for a 39mm). Doxa always have an impressively short L2L even on >40mm dials and this is no exception - I would say anything under 44mm L2L is going to feel quite compact so this is relatively tiny.

Green dial looks classy and very retro, think that will be a top selling point along with the smaller size. From the picture looks like they've shrunk the external bezel, interesting I'm off to check it out, cheers.

The green dial is a new colour for Doxa and the only model with the gilt handset so it has that going for it too. Deciding on which colour to go for may be the hardest part here...

I understand the trend is going south for guy’s watches but I would be hesitant to buy a 39mm Doxa, recently tried on an Omega PO summer blue model which is 39mm, the proportion of case and bracelet was odd made the watch appear thick and small on my wrist(8.5 inches). My Tudor Ranger which is 39mm visually looks small on my wrist according to my wife but at least wears ok.

I've just checked them out and personally love the green, quite classy gives the watch a different aspect, only thing I hate about Doxa's is the price of straps (and I love to change straps)

Yeah, don't know about you but I don't have ANY 18mm straps waiting to go on this.

Love it. Would love it even more, if the colour came on a Sub 200.

Too small. The dial is going to be tiny!!

I suspect the green will be a success and they'll start to add it to the other collections. Just a question of how patient you are prepared to be...

I agree. The Doxa Army dial (same dimensions as the Sub 300T) is around 26.5mm.

Unless they’ve accounted for the size difference of the case and have adjusted it accordingly. They could have made the bezel and cases sides a bit thinner? I’d check it out in person before I made any decisions.

Feels like some distinctive watch model is meant to wear big and you can get away with it. Panerai, sub300, big pilot, mm300 etc. im all in for modest size dive watch but not surw its working on this one. and now they offer a suburst dial and gold and green?! Is it having an identity crisis? 😝😝

I think this size will be a hit, and the emerald green will prove to the new darling of many a collector. The size towards sub-40 options should continue, as it opens up a lot of buyers to brands and models. Longines figured this out with the Spirit and Zulu lines.

I sort of see this as the new Captain Willard, and it may compete for with Seiko for space as the cushion case diver of many collections. Although, many of us collectors will just own both lol. 😁

The dial on the sub 300 is already tiny. The dial on this one will be even tinier! 🤏

Double bummer with 18mm, might be worth looking at vintage straps, buy on rubber then buy a vintage 18mm. Luckily I've got a couple of stockists localish to me to go and have a look at it in the flesh (which makes a change)

·

I prefer the sub200.

·

Personally, I am looking forward to this iteration of Doxa. I'd want to try it first (along with the 300 and 300T); Doxa has suddenly moved to the top of my radar.

·

From measuring online images.

Dial is around 24.5 - 25mm

The dial on my Midsize SMP is 25mm with the cushion case on the Doxa it will probably look smaller. Don't worry about 18mm straps some versions like Barton are better than the 20-22mm alternatives admittedly the choice is not as extensive but that is slowly changing and more releases like this will only help.

Is the lume improved on these new sub 200T over the other Doxas?

I've only seen Doxa's promo shots which look good but hard to say. Probably have to wait for some hands-on reviews. Any Doxa owners out their who can chime in?

·

I want the normal 200c in this size 🥴

·

Looks good. Probably comfortable. I was waiting for a green one. Not crazy about the guilt though on a modern dive watch.

Doxa is ultra-toolish so the gilt (and the sunray options) seem a bit gimmicky. The matte Sharkhunter, Professional or Divingstar are probably what I'd be looking to try...

·

40mm ok, but 39mm just feels wrong for this model 🤔

·

I was looking at this watch and wondering what it was I didn’t like about it (I love the 300 design overall). I just did a side-by-side with the 300T.. and it’s the hands. They are WAY too short. Like cartoonishly short. Maybe it’s me, but I think that one aspect is a total miss in the proportions. The 300 remains on my to-buy list.. I’ll pass on the 200T.

·

I would love a smaller, cheaper, Sub 100T.
