No luxury watch is "worth" it's price so it seems a bit silly trying to compare it to anything. They're all over priced and that's ok because we can live perfectly good lives without ever buying these items. Trying to compare this to GO or Blancpain just doesn't make sense. Those watches are utterly overpriced too if you consider them by themself. They only become "value for money" when compared to other luxury watches and I just don't see anyone buying a luxury watch just because it's better value than another watch (seems like a recipe for disappointment).
At the end of the day, when it comes to luxury watches, people pay over the top because they want it and they can.
To be fair, dismissing a Tudor for a Rolex was easy in the early 2000s when a Sub was attainable by most working people and would come with a discount.
Tudor has filled the spot Rolex once held in my opinion, quality watches for the working professionals. Depending on your age or profession, wearing a Rolex now comes with a lot of stigma (people thinking it's nepotism, it's fake, clients thinking they're overpaying for your work, etc). My buddy told me this a while back and it stuck with me but Rolex now gives the vibe of "the asshole banker", which is really unfortunate since their watches are still amazing.
Here it goes: People taking this hobby WAYY too flipping seriously. Why do people find the need to bash any watch or any brand? Just...don't buy it. The whining and complaining about basically every brand like Rolex AD sucking, tudor being a boring poor man's Rolex, omega making the 104th variant of the speedy to milk the moon, GS being an expensive Seiko, value for money bs, overpriced bs, watches being too big, too small, too unoriginal....fuuuuk just don't buy it then.
At the end of the day, every company is trying to make money off of you, nobody in the real world gives a shit what's on your wrist, and remember, it's just a watch.
That felt pretty good.
You're not wrong but it's not the watches that are overrated, the watches are great. It's the brand itself that seems to overshadow the watches. Most people who buy a Rolex just buy the brand without a clue or care for the watch and it's design/quality. Enthusiasts are heavily in the minority. But that's the sad reality of most luxury products. The majority bought it for the name.
