Diver with a suit?

I got the marathon MSAR roughly a year ago and it hasn't left my wrist since. I wear it for every occasion, from uniforms to suits. Recently, my friend has been trying to convince me that I need a dress piece and with every conversation, I consider it more and more. Divers aren't "usually" worn with suits and certainly not military divers but I think it works. What do you all think?

Wear what you like. I'm always supportive of pushing society to relax formality requirements, so I say go for it! Wear a G-Shock with a tux if you want.

If you wore it with a suit and lived to tell the tale, then it worked.

I think a tool watch with a suit is also a statement of sorts: I clean up well when I need to, but I get things done when I must, and I don't mind getting dirty.

My advice is don't buy a type of watch you don't like, just to have it for occasional use. I'd lean more "GADA" than dress if I was in your position, as a GADA is more versatile.

What's a GADA? 😅

Go Anywhere, DO Anything.

Essentially a watch that is durable enough to wear out swimming, hiking, climbing mountains, etc., but also nice enough to not look out of place in a boardroom, ore when you're wearing a suit.

Ohhh right, thanks 😊

It wouldn’t hurt to have a Longines Conquest on the side. It’s looks more appropriate for casual or formal dress but can still go scuba diving. It has the same water resistance as your Marathon. It’s the very definition of a “go anywhere, do anything” watch.

It's all up to personal taste, however I'd say that most people would consider a rugged looking diver such as the Marathon to be less than ideal with a suit. Lots of people will think nothing of wearing a Submariner with a suit, however the Sub tends to be more of a blend between tool watch and dress watch than the chunkier Marathon, which looks 100% like a tool watch.

It works but don't try it with a tux. That's the one area that upscale sport watches, Tudor Ranger/Monta Noble, excel.

If it works for James Bond

Folk wear skater shoes with suits these days , you will be fine with the GSAR 👍

Well it depends.

Are you a double-ought spy? Then yes, wear a diver with a suit, a tuxedo even. Otherwise, no. 😂

Go Anywhere, Do Anything watch. Omega Aquaterra, Seiko SARB or Rolex Date-Just for example. A little sporty and a little dressy.

If it doesn't slide easily under the cuff of my shirt, then I personally wouldn't want to wear it with a suit. Having a dress (cuff friendly) watch opens up a lot of options and can get a decent new or used watch for not a lot of dough. For me it was an Orient Maestro that I paid about $160.00 for. Worth every penny. I wear it more than I thought would.

Great question - I think about menswear a lot (and I'm really excited about the Marathon I just ordered).

It really depends on the occasion. Most of the time, I dress a little too formally, just to stand out as a younger guy - note that we live in a very leveling era and our elites spend a lot of time trying to look as casual as possible. In these circumstances, I love wearing blazers and ties but the look is solidly business casual and nothing in my collection is off limits. (I collect a lot of conversation pieces that are meant to be attention-grabbing but not over the top... a fine balance which is definitely different for everyone!)

For those very rare functions where I actually want to look dignified, I will switch to a dress watch and a proper suit, but these happen maybe twice a year. Again, I think it really depends on the attitude you want to convey. As long as I'm noticeably much younger than the average person at a formal event, I try to dress quite conservatively, because there's a respect gap that I want to close. Once I start getting some streaks of grey in my hair, the story will be very different.

I think wearing a diver with a suit is definitely a compelling sign of confidence, it's just a question of whether confidence is the emotion you want to convey in your particular social context!

If the watch had a Coronet, or the Omega Greek symbol, on it yoide need to be wearing a 15K custom made suit with it 😆. Marathon can go anywhere and should go with your suit
