Keeping it stock

Sometimes a product looks best if untouched and allowed to live its years as originally intended.

In my opinion, the Duro seats itself firmly in this philosophy. Its mineral crystal is hard enough to withstand scratches under reasonable use, its rotating bezel shines-forth in the most pleasing anodized way…and its resin strap seems nicely-rated for such a watch — like a set of H rated Michelins on a Honda Civic.

Unfortunately, the Civic is one product that suffers from misguided modification to the point of meme status. This I will avoid with my Marlin by avoiding such nonsense entirely.

What is a watch you think should never be modified and to be enjoyed as originally intended…or are you on a quest to modify your acquisitions with abandon?

TRUTH

I have a blue Duro that will stay stock, and a black/gold that I will mod. Call it my Track Car!

·

Sorry the strap is rubbish and for very little money you can transform the wearing. Nearly every watch can be improved by adding a good strap.

I thought the Duro band was atrocious but I guess different tastes. I've tried different bands on the Casio F-91W but the original spec package really is best in my mind.

Just keep the whale tail to a minimum;)

I agree. The pattern of the latter’s strap is iconic.

I find the strap to be a comforting but cheap duvet from the likes of a Walmart.

·

I also don’t mind the strap. However, switching out the strap once in a while to suit what you’re wearing is ok with me.

Agree with you about the wonderful Civic, such an honest car if left alone. Like @CliveBarker1967 I can't get on with the strap, if only Casio did a decent strap and (whispering as not to offend anyone) they shrank it by 2mm.

Agreed. From a comfort standpoint, the super thin, flat Casio strap is hard to beat.

Now, the rippled resin one on so many others?

I thought they were fine until I swapped for a Barton rubber strap.

Much better.

·

My Duro on Barton orange silicon. Soooo comfortable.👍

I think the OEM strap is ok too. I have a couple of others to change it up a little though.

·

What I can't stand is shitty Accutron mods. A good idea in principle, but usually carried out with the taste and dignity of a drunk falling down the stairs.

Wrong/painted hands, wrong or just blank crystals. Cases that were NEVER Spaceviews, even in the beginning. All those original watches just savaged by usually eastern European chop houses is just sickening. I see one more set of RR hands painted white and an owner saying "Its all original! eBay said so!" I'm going to scream.

·

Keep the watch in the orginal, but the strap is rubbish. I own 2 both with Natos.

·

Im not into modifying watches as I'm afraid I will irreversibly mess them up. Unless you mean changing straps. I change straps like I do underwear....sometimes more than once per day....

For me, swapping straps isn't so much about making an improvement as it is about making it different. For me, a major factor in purchasing a watch is whether or not it will look good on a variety of straps.

But to answer your question: G-Shocks should be left alone.

·

I agree on this sentiment on various watches, and I did buy the world time twice because I did like the way it looks stock as well. Though with the Duro I thought the strap was absolutely uncomfortable and it looked leagues better on a jubilee bracelet

·

I dunno, I think my duro looks great with a new bracelet
