Can anyone tell me to what genre this belongs?

I bought this Citizen Eco-Drive Perpetual Calendar in 2004 after melting into a malleable goo of wonder with just enough tactile fortitude to hand over 321.03 clams to the sweaty-palmed flim-flam standing over a freshly-windexed display case — wearing his three button grey suit — while a too-wide paisley tie hung (slightly-stained from yesterday’s takeout) from his veiny neck in a tightly-drawn half-windsor.

I had to have this watch. It was a tank style, accounted for leap years for forever and a day, sported a stopwatch and alarm, and featured a dual time feature for those important types who travel farther than the next city over for a fine Steak and Malibu chicken at Sizzler. Needless to report, I walked out of the store and exited Fashion Place Mall in a triumphant gait that almost resembled a proper military two step.

For years I wore this watch with my suits under my monogrammed collars and strategically let it slip into view while closing a sale to the hen-pecked to let him know I was on to his misfortune. After closing the sale and reaping the piddly commission (that was sometimes enough to pay for a full tank of fuel) I relished in this watch and its aesthetic prowess. Now that I no longer wear a suit at work and instead deal with angry, rambling and confused claimants and insured’s in the insurance world, my once triumphant eco-drive has lost its identity…and It just doesn’t seem to complement much of what I am wearing or doing on a daily basis. I feel I am neglecting it and sometimes cower within myself when I hear it cry softly deep into the night while sitting in its drawer in the adjoining room.

Will anybody of you suggest appropriate times, places and reasons to wear this watch? I just don’t want to part with it.

It is the perfect watch for amusement parks and county fairs.

·

Retired so I would wear it any damn time I feel like wearing it lol

I love your watch and vintage at that.

Enjoy that watch and give it the wrist time it deserves!

Cheers!

That's pretty cool. It's close to a dress watch, but since it's a chronograph, it probably leans more towards a sports watch, but I'm with J.C., wear it when you want to. It's great.

·

I think you resent the watch for what it now represents and wish it misfortune for what it has reduced you to. Why else would you relegate it to a drawer as it lay slowly dying a terrible death due to lack of proper nutrition from the light sources that keep it alive?

Better for you both if you simply give it to somebody it can coexist with for as long as there is light.

Be that person. It's not too late.

Pairs nicely with fried Oreos.

I would wear it for travel or any leisure activity for that matter. I have a kind of similar Eco-drive, dual world time, radio controlled Citzen that I wear frequently for those situations. Mine is an odd ball too, but has such cool features that I refuse to give it up.

·

Genre - Sports watch. Appropriate attire would be sport, casual and smart casual.🍻

·

Haha I want that watch! Model and reference number pls.

I would wear it everywhere!

·

Not much to add beyond what has already been stated. It is a handsome sport watch that would be a great accessory with any attire. The integrated bracelet restricts being able to change straps easily, but it isn't really necessary.

·

I’d do a 180° to sports and pair it with casual shirt, shorts and flippers! I’ve got two similar EcoDrives and keep them for the same oddity and personal history factors.

·

My personal opinion, which you are more than welcome to dismiss, is that it belongs on your wrist, no matter what's the type or genre of this watch.

Only if I win a big stuffed elephant at the ring toss.

Much obliged. I really don’t know why it has become such a quandary to me.

Wow! Admittedly I must say your response is as if we just met for a one hour session. 😹

I’ve never had those. Are they good with coffee maybe?

Very nice of you. I wear all of my other watches liberally. I just don’t know why this one seems a little out of place. It never did for years…and now things have seemed to change.

You’re exactly right of course. I have to dismiss all of this silly social protocol.

I have 43 watches and love them all lol. That's my dilemma. Lol

It would actually look really good with my Bucee’s Hawaiian shirt.

I believe it is a BL5140-51L. Here’s a photo of the original receipt with some item numbers.

Here’s a pic of my Citzen with great features, but hard to describe use category. It’s a keeper for me.

Yeah…Citizen watches are wonders of function, technology and design. I just can’t put my finger on the intangible element that seems to dilute its virility.

If you're asking does wearing such a Citizen help you enter the most elusive and desirous category for any watch wearer...the bodacious babe magnet, the answer is a resounding YES!!! Isn't that all that really matters?

Then I will be sure to wear it to the local Bingo hall where all of the hot ladies meet because they serve free mimosas at the open bar.

·

If you give us the secret code BINGO after your next visit there, we'll all know "Operation Citizen" verified our theory and was a resounding success.

Thanks! Looks like it's sold out everywhere, but I'll keep an eye out.

This watch has that bling factor that makes it perfect for rap and hip hop venues! 🤣

Indeed!

Wear it as a reminder of days gone by... when you were a scrappy go-getter and not some desk-diving claimant queue rage diffuser. It might even awaken a renewed sense of purpose within you. 🤣
