Looking to get a German Watch

I'd like to add a classic German watch to my collection. I don't want another Diver, GMT or other style with a busy face. I'm just starting my search and hope you guys can help. The pictures are just some examples of things and styles I like. Anything under $2000 that would go well with a band(nylon/leather). At this point I don't want another bracelet watch. Date windows don't bother me. I think I would prefer something with numbers but it's not mandatory. I also don't object to most face colors or band colors.

Stowa?

·

This is a complete curveball, but I’d suggest the Muhle Glashutte SAR rescue timer on rubber.

·

Keeping on with Muhle Glashutte, I'd recommend their Panova collection

Have a look at Union Glashutte and Damasko as well.

·

Sinn 556 or 104! Both very nice watches!

·

Yeah I like the 556 thanks

I will now. Thanks

Nomos might have what you’re looking for.

Nomos would be a great pick , they have a wide range of watches so you should find something you like

·

I don't own one yet, but I plan to buy a Damasko watch soon.

I can’t recommend Damasko highly enough. I have the DS30, and it’s super versatile. I’ve worn it on leather, canvas, rubber, Natos, MN straps. Plus, it’s pretty much indestructible!

One option would be this:

Clean, german, numbers, date, originally on leather but here on nato

Head over to Laco and check out the Flieger Pro. You can customise it to your own requirements 👍

You can take a look at Archimedes as well. But overall: Sinn, Damasko, Mühle and Junghans should have smth to fit your requirement. All great brands.

I also have a Circula which I am happy with, but I think dial will be bit busy for your requirement

That watch is gorgeous. I may need to reconsider my minimalist criteria

You have plenty to choose from with Laco.

Laco. You can customise them from the factory for under $2000. They were one of the original suppliers of Fliegers. Check out my WRUW from yesterday

Simple and Clean.

GO !!! If you have the funds I believe it is class leading ….

·

556 mother of pearl. It’s grey/black but when it hits the light the right way it’s a colorful storm…

Actually you allready picked up some few great models. Anyway here are some alternatives. Some are slightly over 2K. But might be possible to find for around or less 2K.

For example the Timewalker line of Montblanc (see pic below). It is discontinued but still available on some shops with discount.

But most watches are for around 1K.

Some allready mention the Protrail of Circula. But there is more to say: This watch is made of hardend scratch resistant steel. It is Antimagnetic, and if I remember right, up to 150m WR.

From the same watchmaker city of Pforzheim comes Archimede. Most of their cases and bracelets are made of hardend scratch resistant steel aswell.

Most Junghans models are dressy but a few sporty types are there also.

Also underated is Union Glashütte. But mostly divers and chronos. The Noramis Date is lne of the rare clean dials.

A hiddend gem is Guinand (see pic bellow). A former swiss manufacturer but since (I guess) around 20 of more years a subsidiary of Sinn and therefore located in Frankfurt. Making good bang for buck watches. Mostly flieger chronos. Always worth to look, evem just as a peep show.

My personal favorite is actually Tourby, a small independent brand. But he became famous after producing the watches for the U.S. Navy fighter pilots school in Califofnia. He became also quite popular for its Flawless diver. But this one is the Flawlress Reduced.

That's it...I'm sure you will chose wisely.

Thank you for all of the information. I have much more to think about now. I'll do some research on the brands you mentioned. I like the Archimede's simplicity.

Junghans are also know for being strap monsters. This one for example will look great with whatever kind of strap. It comes in various nuances to pick and choose. There is also a non chronograph version. The max bill line from Junghans

Now that would be my choice and I nearly bought one. Unfortunately too big for my wrist. Ended up getting a Hanhart Preventor 9.

You’re on point with Mühle. I love my Aerosport but also have my eye on the day/date version of the 29er which I think is a very cool watch.

There’s so many good German brands out there!

A range of choices out there...

Junghans Max Bill is a classic choice and can be had for under $1k...

Image

Sinn has some great choices like the 104 for just under $1.5k...

Image

Hanhart is always a great choice and can be had in the $2-2.5k range...

Image
Image

This Tutima M2 Coastline packs in the complications without getting too busy but lands on the $3k range...

Of course, there are always Laco, Stowa and Damasko if you want a pilot style flight watch.

Don't forget, despite being Swiss Made, Montblanc is a German brand and they have a great range of quality watches in your price point.

Best of luck finding something that hits the spot.

N.B. If you are interested in vintage watches, then Dugena (the German brand that split from Alpina) has some fantastic references that can be had in your price range...

And if you want to go for the crazy end of the spectrum...there is always Alexander Shorokhoff...
