UNVEILING THE EXCELLENCE

Thrilled to unveil my brand-new Kurono Tokyo Chronograph 1 Mk 2. It's Hajime Asaoka's latest masterpiece, and in my humble opinion, the best one yet.

Exceeding expectations with a rose gold main dial, black subdials, and a thick box-sapphire glass, this timepiece is a visual marvel. The dial boasts a high-polish arabic '12' applique, polished steel studs, and a date window. Crafted with a cylinder-shaped design and a sapphire box crystal, it delivers a three-dimensional effect and captivating lightplay. Leaf hands and a unique subhand at '9' enhance legibility, drawing inspiration from 1950s and 1960s chronographs.

The 'kakishibu-iro' color, inspired by persimmon juice, imparts a stunning salmon or pink gold appearance. The NE86 movement, chosen for reliability, features a 311-part design with a column wheel, vertical clutch, and a three-pointed hammer system. With a 45-hour power reserve, it stands as the epitome of design and functionality by Hajime Asaoka.

Let me start saying this is a stunning watch!!

However, I have to ask, where are the markers in the subregisters? How is the user supposed to make use of the chronograph if they don’t know how many minutes are elapsed? What is the minutes subregister and what is the running seconds subregister?* Can you tell how many minutes are elapsed at a glance since you pushed the chronograph?

Please don’t let beauty ruin function. As beautiful as it can be, a chronograph needs to perform as a chronograph, moreover one that’s carrying a Seiko movement on the back.

** I assume left is minutes, right is running seconds. But sure I have needed way longer than a glance to make sense of that.

Lol. Thanx for extensive feedback. I have no issues reading anything at any point. I think you are reading to much in to it or maybe you just need a bigger watch for your own use. It’s like wandering why Lamborghini owners have a car that have 1000 horsepower under the hood. It might not be practical but sure as heck is fun!

Unfortunately not, so that he can avoid getting thicker than it is.

The main handset and sub dials all have different hands but somehow it really works and adds to the charm

Absolutely 💯

Beautiful watch! Congrats! Kurono is the best microbrand out there IMO. While not cheap, they make an excellent watch. Absolutely love my Kurono and would happily add another.
