Does your significant other find your watch hobby hilarious?

My wife caught me “talking” to my watch box as one of my automatics had stopped a lot quicker than I thought. Damn power reserve… 😂

She busted up, told the kids, neighbors, family, friends that I’m totally obsessed and a bit strange. Ha!

What do your family/friends think?

My wife’s a member on here. She’s got a more interesting collection than me!

·

Hilarious? Not really. Amusing might be a better word. Concerning? Not as long as I pay my bills. Out of control? Certainly (in your best Curly voice). Understanding? Yup. Critical? Only when I buy another 4 figure watch.

She always says, what am I going to do with all these when you pass? To which I usually reply, what am I going to do with all your costume and better jewelry once your gone? 😂

Gorgeous Cartier, btw.

my gf asks me why i remove my watch from my arm during watching tv and cuddle with it in my hand and look at it all the time 🤷

My wife laughs at me all the time about my watch hobby! Especially because I change watches several times per day. This last time before we got romantic, she asked me if I picked out a sex watch! 😂

I rib her back about her obsession with office supplies, particularly pens and planners. Not kidding! Each year when school season is coming up and the stores have all of their back-to-school school supplies out for sale, she just stops in that aisle and looks at everything, going, "Oooo, these are nice!" when handling a colorful pack of pens or markers.

So we're even with the teasing. 😉

(Love the Cartier, btw! 👍)

No significant other at the moment, but my parents and friends think I'm ever so slightly bonkers, with some erroneously assuming I have heaps of money.

I didn't get into collecting until after I was already single so only self monitoring the obsessions. I did find the sex watch comment really struck me as so damn funny. I would so be interested in what people would choose for that! 🤣

We all hail from the Homo Sapiens- hunter/gatherers. Now I hunt Chrono24 for my latest game.

Were you chatting with that lovely Cartier Tortue?

·

No, my wife thinks I'm nuts LOL

·

Every new watch gets me the looks…

More like Erin Condren!

I think my wife is okay with my collection. She doesn’t get why I constantly change out the watch bands. She sees me with the same watch with 3-4 different bands and thinks it’s weird.

For my Casioaks, I’m pretty sure she thinks I have one Casioak with three different mods. I have three Casioaks. :)

I think that’s the greatness of this community. We are all like minded individuals. I absolutely bore my family with my watch talk.

·

Haha my wife is also into watches … I only pray she doesn’t get as bad as me💸🤞🙏😂💸

I thought this was a funny post so, being in a similar boat to many of the story tellers here, I started sharing some of the posts with my wife. She promptly zoned out and did something else.

My wife listens to me prattle on about lots of things and just nods pretending to listen 👂. We work together 🙂

·

Maybe not hilarious, but a little silly for sure.

·

You mean the one that has so many shoes that I feel like I'm sharing space with Imelda Marcos?

·

As long as its still manageable, shes fine with it.

I can relate about people thinking you have lots of money. When I was working, I wore a different watch pretty much every day, often expensive watches (think Omega, Rolex, etc.) and I think fellow workers thought I did have lots of money. But what they failed to acknowledge was that while we all earned about the same, I didn't have any kids to take care of and that kids are a major expense. So I had/have the money to spend on other things. I often got the feeling they thought is was so unfair that I could afford some of life's luxuries while they could not. Basically blatant jealousy. Oh well. I'm retired now so.... 😉

·

My wife doesn't smile when she discovered what my watches cost BUT she does love when I give her a new watch

·

My Mrs is into watches, has some nice pieces & we watch YouTube content together daily. Sounds good? Great, but she's clued up on prices/value & far more responsible than I am.....😂

·

My wife feeds my addiction by contributing to it on Bdays, Xmas and anniversaries.

That's true. My watches look more expensive than they are (and some people think the word vintage means "very expensive") which makes some people think I have cash to burn showing up every day with a different watch or strap combination.

·

My girlfriend has accepted it for sure, though I might get a few little barbs thrown at me from time to time. I gave her a barely used Hamilton Khaki to wear and she likes it quite a bit.

My wife knows (and trusts) me well enough to know that we'll make it fun for both of us or move on to other activities. Over the years we've joined a number of special interest groups where we've developed lasting relationships with the "best" members and as a result have had very satisfying experiences. In the short time we've been collecting watches we've gone to many fun events at retail stores, breweries, museums, car shows, restaurants and wineries. She's met other female enthusiasts including Emily from Bob's Watches and they are hanging again later this week at a Whiskey, Cars and Watches event with Oris the night before we fly up to WindUp SF. While the hobby isn't one my wife may have discovered on her own she jumped in with both feet by learning the language and building a notable collection of her own. Some of you already know it was my wife who sparked my interest in watches when she gifted me a Speedmaster in 2019. It's a safe bet she knew more about that Omega and it's history before I ever did. Happy wife, happy life.

True. And then they fail to realize that a smart shopper can find a really nice watch for up to 60%-80% off and quite often that makes them obtainable. I mean like if you find a discounted Hamilton for what a new Casio would cost, why not?

·

Oh, I doubt she'd be laughing if she found out I just spent Cartier money.

You're on to something here. I know a lot of people and not a single one cares about any of this. That's exactly why I'm on WatchCrunch. I've got to talk with somebody!

All this beauty, and redeeming social value too! Thank you for the writing and the photos. The Gruen is my favorite, they used to build them in Cincinnati, about a half-hour away from my house.
