If had to choose a few Rolexes, which would you choose?

Personally, I am much more of a fan of GS and of more elegant, creative design languages, but I must admit that i admire the craftsmanship of Rolex and its watches. I wouldn’t want most of them, but there are a few that have definitely caught my eye.

So this post is for people who would rather things over Rolexes. If you had to pick a few, what would be your picks?

Here are some of the few I would pick: 124270 Explorer, 18283 Day-Date (all gold), and a 1675 Rootbeer like the one below. Maybe a modern Pepsi or perhaps a Flanders for the modern, robust construction. And my forth pick—and the biggest stretch of the imagination of them all— in case i ever win three lotteries in a row, a green-dial 116718.

The DD below for me is theDay-Date. It has the most classic look and comes in a great size.

For the 1675, I like the 70s bling and it has a sort of elegance to it with nice colors and sleak markers. And I want a bit of gold lol. The 116718, I just really like the colorway.

Okay, the milgauss is fun too

·

I like both the Explorer I and the II (Polar).

Air King feels out of place in the Rolex catalog, imo. Its reason-for-being feels like a rushed class project.

I already got my DJ. I’d love to add a GMT II and eventually a Daytona. I was desperate for a yellow OP but that didn’t happen..

·

Not ever gonna happen, but one day if someone somehow snuck some adult beverages into my ice tea...I might consider these Rolex references...

What color of GMTM2? Sucks that you didn’t get the yellow OP

I like that triple calendar moonphase.

It’s gotta be the Pepsi. I wouldn’t mind the left handed sprite as I wear my watches on my right anyway. I keep checking the grey market for the OP but I can’t justify paying £15k for it.

I have a Datejust already. If I was to add more it would be Explorer1&2, Sub, blue dial sky dweller. Not fussed at all about the Daytona, there are far more interesting and better quality chronos for the money and am not a fan of 2 colour bezels of the GMT master 2, its not a watch I would ever buy (although I would go a full black bezel then I would not have the need for a sub)

Rolex moonphase is the best looking watch they have made, can't believe they haven't brought it back beautiful 👌❤️

As neat as it would be to own a Flanders GMT, I think I’d want all my very expensive watches to be best for my handedness.

The Air King's dial is one that seems stupid until you use one (or a homage to one...) to tell time with, and then you realize it's brilliant. It's like a smushed flieger type b in use, and I hope other watch manufacturers steal the idea for their own dials. Call it the Bloodhound dial or something

Daytona black dial

My fav is Rolex 124270 and Rolex 18238! These two are my all time favourite

·

Wearing the one I decided to buy. But I agree, I prefer my Grand Seikos.

My grandfather’s milgauss, but it’s lost to the sea of time. If I am buying the new pola explorer II or 2019 Explorer.

·

I’m not a reference number guy, but one of the pre public release original GMTs issued to a Pan Am pilot would be a true grail watch. I’d love to own that piece of history.

·

These are the Rolex models that I would want. I have a Sub and Explorer 1, but I’ve sold my DJ2. Once I acquire a GMT Master 2 (either the two tone or the Batman) I’m going to be done with Rolex. (I’m wearing my GS at work right now!)

That’s a lovely GS. (well I guess they all are lol). Which Explorer do you have? I like the new black-grey two-tone—maybe even more than the gold one, because of the nice contrasts.

I think the only thing I would change about it is the clasp; which I would change to a GlideLock. Such a good-looking and well-made wristwatch. Can’t wait to see one in person to see the nice taper too

Ngl, minus the added date functionality of that triple-calendar and its size, I’m a little partial to the Cellini Moonphase.

My picks would be the aforementioned Migauss for sure.

I like the 1655 Explorer 2 quite a bit

Image

And for a more left field pick, I saw this chronograph from 1938 at Grand Central Watch a few weeks back, it is stunning in person:

Image

1655 is the coolest Rolex ever(, tho the bezel font of its successor is pretty sick too). Would love to see more pics of it on a riveted bracelet. Fun fact: Orlando Bloom has one that he’s worn for ages

I know it’s not the same but San Martin has made a few reproductions of these. Interestingly, there are people in the fakes community who do their own versions of those Bakelite-era GMTMs as like projects.

·

As much as I want a Batman (and I’m willing to wait as my 30th Anniversary in a couple of years) I’m really drawn to the vintage Turn O Graph - 1969 is even my birth year and I find it very interesting on a strap.

I could not take myself seriously with the Batman. I don’t know if I have the control to not answer my phone,” I am Batman”!

I like the #rolex milgause

Today, there’s only one more Rolex that I’d buy. The Yachtmaster 40 with blue dial.
