Show me your coffee cups!

Watches and coffee goes along very well in the morning. The later helps me to bootstrap my brain while the former is helping me to let my brain wander while it's being reset.

Image

Unfortunately my trusted old double walled titanium cup broke and since it's no longer available I was forced to seek alternatives.

Sadly, all I found was either too small, too large, lacking a decent handle, or just too fugly. Which let me conclude that titanium coffee cups have a lot in common with watches, at least as far as I'm concerned.

Image

This has no impact whatsoever on my decision to wear today the Mathey-Tissot & AMWG collaboration to re-create the Air King Explorer from the 50's, but I wished that I had my old titanium cup back because the red ceramic cup, while nice on it's own, is not a perfect match.

Image

And so I'm left with the MT369 and a desire to see what kind of cups my fellow crunchers are using, maybe the wisdom of the crowd will prove itself and I'll find my perfect cup again.

My coffee cup is empty and utilitarian... It's near 11pm here, and I'm finishing off a very different beverage before bed.

I find the plastic mug holds up well for packing in a duffel bag as a fly around Canada, and is far superior to the paper cups in hotels and barracks rooms.

I think I have a problem with collecting things 😂

Sorry to hear your titanium cup broke, mate. That's hard to replace given it's been with you all these years. As for cups, I use varied ones depending on how I wish to smell the aroma, and appreciate the nuances of the #specialtycoffee origin I brew.

Ceramic has proven better in heat retention vs. metal cups...

Glass also has a slightly better heat retention than metal...

Clay cups have also been used for many milleniums for warm drinks and tea, because it always does well in heat retention.

How about a mug with the Welsh flag on it? 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Image

I don’t know why I have this mug - I’m not even Welsh. So it’s up for grabs.

Pros - it has a fiery symbol to get you going in the morning, and might improve your (male voice) singing.

Cons - it only ever has tea in it, not coffee.

P.s. - I am mourning the titanium cup. So many great photos were made by that cup. 😢

Who cares about watches, this is a very useful survey of the materials available for morning beverage containers.

I agree about ceramic and clay. For me the best vessel is fine bone china - it’s great to sip from.

Glass - I’m not so sure. Perhaps for mint tea. Anything else, and it looks awful. Do not serve me a tea in a tall glass! 😉

CW C63 and the simple no handle cup I always drink my coffee from. In other places ceramic, clay and porcelain all fine by me, but coffee from a glass or metal cup…not for me!

This is bothering me - can you walk me through the curative concept behind this collection?

Are they all Disney? If so, why does there seem to be one from Barcelona? Is it a “Small, small world” thing?

Thats very informative thanks! Sadly I broke my only double walled glass mug when i went to get ice. I always thought steel was the best for mugs. I guess it was just for durability.

The handle broke away when it fell and tore a part of the thin outer skin that was weak due to a poor weld.

Borosilicate glass has become the A+ standard for quality glass coffee cone drippers, carafes, and glasses. It retains heat much better than regular glass. It's even used for the carafe of your basic automatic coffeemaker. The well-known coffee equipment manufacturers like Hario, Fellow, Timemore, etc. all use borosilicate glass. But, if you don't prefer glass, that's fine.

You're welcome, mate. Sad to hear you broke your double-walled glass mug. I'm sure you'll be able to find a replacement quickly.

Double-walled steel mugs are actually also excellent, viz. one layer steel mugs! They retain heat quite well, and are more durable obviously. @solidyetti @RFIMike @boisterousgiant all posted pics of their steel mugs, which I assume are double-walled. @gatorcris uses a Contigo, which I'm hoping to find one for when traveling in the car. But for regular home and work use, I prefer the more earthy feel of ceramic, glass, or clay cups. ;)

After seeing a Rolex ad with the old Explorer in it, I’ve finally come to see why people like it. For those curious as to what the Explorer could have looked like in an alternative timeline, San Martin has one with applied markers like the new one. It’s really interesting to see.

Yeti 20oz tumblers for everything. Coffee, colas, road trips, work office.

Cannot remember the last time I drank out of anything else unless in a restaurant.

This is the Starbucks You Are Here Collection from a few years back. They’ve since changed their design. I collected one of these mugs to every place we traveled to over a 2 year period. Yes, it was insane. Barcelona was the only place we didn’t get to due to the great sickness. @WatchBee
