Do you wear your high(er) end divers in the ocean/to the beach?

I know it’s probably a crazy question because I know these things are over-engineered to withstand the elements and were made to be worn. I just have a hard time wrapping my brain around wearing a 4k BB58 in salt water when I have a 10 year old G-shock in the bag. Obviously I’m planning for an upcoming trip and thinking too hard.

Yes for beaches in the U.S and South Pacific, No for beaches in less developed countries.

Solid point. It’s the Florida Keys…the land of old people and their 20+ year old Rolexes.

Depends. I guess we’re all gonna draw the line at a certain level most likely. I personally would wear a Tudor to the beach. A 10-15k Rolex I most likely wouldn’t when playing with my kids in the sand etc..

Yep always, Huatulco Oaxaca México

Just give them a good rinsing after you get out of the saltwater, and clean them off with dish soap when you get home.

·

Proudly wear your BB58 in front of those old farts and their Rolexes

Tudors yes but if push comes to shove like when doing something more active, I wear my Helm or Seikos just in case there is an accident and the watch ends up like the old Citizen and Rolex from the news (lost underwater and encrusted with gunk). Lot easier to replace the more affordable divers.

Why would you want to step in the ocean of your own free will? You know that all the fishes and sharks and whales and seahorses don't have lavatories down there, right? That's also their bedroom, if you get what I mean...

Jokes aside, any diver should be fine provided that you rinse it off thoroughly (I mean very thoroughly, just in case) in regular water afterwards. Bonus points if you take the bracelet off and rinse and dry the spots around the lugs, because rust tends to develop there. Same thing with spring bars, because if those rust out and you don't realise, you may be flying a helicopter over a volcano years later when they decide to give up.

All the best and enjoy the ocean, which I hope I haven't ruined for you.

I wear my SMP happily. You should wear yours too.

Just because a watch can withstand water doesn’t mean you have to take it into the ocean. These things are expensive—far more expensive than when they first came out and were issued to militaries and the like. What’s the point of making yourself uncomfortable? Just wear a G-Shock or go watch-free for the moments you’re in the water.

I don't wear any of my watches in the water.

I’m in the Yucatán and was in the ocean with my bb58 today. The past couple of days, I’ve seen a Royal oak,a nautilis, and a date just poolside. A bunch of other stuff I didn’t recognize as well. G shocks are huge here, especially with the staff.

And I had a lovely moment with a dude wearing a Casio world time.

I find it amusing that people spend so much on a watch that they are afraid to use it for what it was designed to do.

I get that for many watches are just jewellery, but it is jewellery designed to be used...

I don't go to the beach. There's a bunch of sand there.

·

If I'm going in the water I wear my Invicta Pro Diver. I don't own any dive watches over 1k atm. But if I had one I'd just wear my Pro Diver anyways since it does the job fine already. I'm not big on taking risks. On the other hand if your watch is made for proper diving it should do just fine.

I don’t like sand. It’s coarse and rough and it gets everywhere.

Hasn't even been a possibility so far. I live too far away.

Why would I wear a five figure or even a four figure watch in the ocean when I can wear my perfectly awesome Helm Komodo for that?

The best dive watch for under $500...it took me a long time to grudgingly put myself on the list, but then I finally did and finally got one.

I do not regret it at all...it is the perfect watch for the water.

Mine just became my Hawaii watch...it was all over and still looks awesome.

Watches are for wearing! Seems a bit of a shame to buy a perfectly capable tool watch and not use it for the tasks it's perfectly suited to. They're meant for getting things done so your less robust watches can stay safely in the box.

It's sensible to me to not buy tool watches that cost more than I'm comfortable with losing. Maybe it's the "luxury" tool watch itself that makes no sense. 🤔

Wore my Spinnaker dive watch to go diving. Wore my Longines Zulu Time to go snorkelling. Worn plenty of them in a pool.

Why would you not?

·

Absolutely! Here's my Seaq in the the Sea of Cortez.

The Tudor BB is a 4k dive watch and if it can’t sea water, you got ripped off? 😅 Wear it and just rinse it thoroughly after. I wear mine to the beach whenever I get a chance to. All the best mate🍻
