Do you have watches you haven’t worn?

I am asking this question because I have watches I haven’t worn. However you may have gotten it: purchase, gifts, etc. Is that the definition of a watch collector?

I have more than 5 I haven’t worn yet. But they are kinda nicer hence why I’m not gonna wear unless I’m going out

·

I’ve never worn these two yet

Image

Nope!

·

I have watches I've barely worn, which were a casio waveceptor (uncomfy strap), A casio calculator watch (Uncomfy metal bracelet), A Bulova Hack (Boring and not enough water resistance, and did I say shockingly boring?) And a old seiko 5. (No second hacking and no handwinding weared on me greatly after a while. Plus wimpy water resistance).

My Casio Royale is also moving toward 'watch I never wear', simply because I have much nicer watches than it, although if I ever did any travelling, I'd bring it along for the functions it has.

(until I get a full metal g-shock square...)

What's most notable is that these were all watches I got early on, before I knew what my tastes were.

Those are cool and thanks for sharing. I know I should wear them though because they were meant to be worn

·

No. I buy what I like and switch around.

·

Nope. IMHO, an unworn watch has no soul. Every scratch, scuff, and dent tells a story of enjoyment. If I’m too afraid to wear and mar it, I can’t afford it.

That’s harsh, I know…. Shutting up now.

Just my $0.02

Do you ever just purchase a watch because you like the way it looks but never wore it? I can relate to earlier watches because I have a few but those haven’t been worn recently but got extensive use when I did wear it.

I hear you and I agree they have stories they pick up along the way

·

unless it's brand new and I haven't got the chance to wear it yet, I've worn all my watches.

Well, I do try the watches on as soon as I get them, but the closest to your criteria is the casio calculator watch (db-611). got it because it looked neat in the pictures, and I wanted something more fancy than my dbc-32 (which I have worn for years), but the light was crap, the bracelet hurt, and it looked cheap in person, so I've only really worn it twice. For like 15 minutes at a time.

·

If I buy, I wear. Not sure that not wearing is the "definition of a collector". Or maybe I'm misunderstanding?

·

I have worn every watch I own at least once. But there are a few that I never wear now. One was a gift, the others were watches I bought before I found my taste and style preference.

·

The only watch I haven't worn is my next one

·

Nope, I have watches that I use more and others that I hardly use, but I don't have a single one that I haven't used.

·

Just one: this 1970s Vostok Amfibiya. Doing a mild cosmetic restoration and doing a bezel mod. Parts are on the way! It runs really well, so no service concerns there 😊

There is a difference between haven't worn and will not wear. I don't keep watches that I will not wear. On the other hand I have a few that I wear only on a very rare occassion.

·

I wear all my watches.

·

Yup, got a few. Some of those are a FLW by Bulova, a Jack Mason, a Mondaine and a Hamilton Ventura, the numbered limited edition automatic.

·

Always on rotation 🤘

I try to wear all of my watches, but some get worn more than others. My vintage TI 550 LCD gets worn the least, because it is so hard to find parts for. A scratch on its face is a devastating thing. So I baby it, and only wear it on rare occasions. My two Casio digitals get worn when I am doing things outdoors (yardwork, mostly) for an extended period of time. So they don't get worn very often. And lastly, my Marc Ecko watch with the CZ bezel is a piece of "flashy jewelry" that only gets worn to church, and on special occasions where I am required to dress formal.

All of my other watches see pretty regular usage. I cycle through them often, just look at my WRUW gallery.

The Hack is boring? I like mine. But I may have a thing for a plain watch.

Well said, could not of have put it better.🍻

I have this Casio Edifice I bought as I am fan boy but, I feel it was an impulse buy. I have worn it a couple of times but, I am afraid it would be right up there with least worn.

I have a big collection of very inexpensive watches I put together to see what I really wanted to settle on. They are just the cost of learning as extra tools. A third are custom built autos I made and the rest are watches I wear on a whim. All displayed at the door for quick picking.

·

I don’t have a watch that I haven’t worn, but I have watches that I rarely wear. In fact, saying that has made me go and wear them over the next few days! I can’t imagine having a watch that I’ve never worn; what are the unworn pieces that you have?

Yeah. I do want a white watch in the collection at some point, but I think it will need a textured dial to keep my interest, like a Seiko Sharp Edge

·

One that I haven’t worn yet Swatch x Blancpain Arctic. Also my late dads old Seiko 5 but that because I’m looking for a nice strap to replace the old one.

·

Nope, I keep a healthy rotation of 8 watches, so all have plenty of wrist time.

·

I do.

I own one quartz chronograph from Cross that was gifted to me more than 20 years ago. It's practically unwearable due to its semi rigid bracelet which extend the lug to lug distance to more than 60mm - which is a real feat of engineering considering that the case diameter is just 38mm.
