What is the ultimate dresswatch?

I just got back from an AD with an idea what my next purchase could look like. I threw an eye on those classic Cartiers and got instantly hocked. Nevertheless: Do you have any recommendations for a good dresswatch in the same price category?

For Cartier, I'd say Tank Louis. Santos is usually considered to be more on the "sporty" side...for some reason.

I love the Dumont 😍😍😍

Yrs, it is dress watch perfection 😘👌🏻

Hard to go wrong with a tank on a leather strap. A variety of sizes, styles and metals.

Big is better when your eyes get old

I have the Tank Francaise you're wearing in the pic you've posted. I have to say that were I in your position just now, & I'd decided that it was the Tank Francaise that you wish to buy, I'd be buying the old model at half the price of the current.

The white dial of the older model is a nicer contrast to the bracelet than the new silver dial. I think that the WSTA0067 actually looks better off the bracelet.

There is a ton of nice dress watches to a lower price if you consider vintage.

·

I will always throw out Grand Seiko.

Thank you for your good advice. The older model really had a better contrast to offer

I have been salivating over the Santos Dumont for the last 2 years so that’s my pick!

Agreed. The new tank Francaise was on my radar as the old design Francaise was the first watch I ever bought myself. It is a rare misstep from Cartier IMO. Still better than many, but I prefer the older style too. 👍

Cartier tank or reverso

I’ve had the watch since the 9th of February this year & I haven’t been able to figure out what it is about it that I don’t like until today.

When I removed the bracelet & stuck a strap on instead it suddenly dawned on me. The dial suddenly stood out. Happily I now can see me wearing the watch a lot more, just not on the bracelet.

I still prefer the old model though 🙂

Yours does look great on the strap. I'm not sure why they didn't keep the guilloche dial for the new one.

I don’t really understand either. There was an element of “The Emperor’s New Clothes” about it when they relaunched it. I had this watch 20 years ago & had to sell it. I always regretted doing so. When it came out I had to get it. Stupid really, I could of bought the old one at anytime.

I’m going to sell it at some point & buy the one I should have 🙂

That sounds like a plan. You should have a bit of money left over too! 👍

I hope so but I’m going to take a fair hit on it, given the market conditions I’d expect to remain in the next year.

I am a tank fan!

Tank fan myself of the larger kind. 😉
