Santos de cartier

Every AD I’ve been to and tried on the medium, they told me “it’s a girls watch” but I see it in posts with men wearing it and it looks great! For reference I’m 6’ tall with 6.7-7” wrist (haven’t formally measured). It looks a bit small to me in person, but I like how formal and elegant it looks. On the flip side I think the large looks right for my wrist but is a little bigger than I’d like. Which do you think fits my wrist better? Thank you! (Side note I think I may need better photos of it, not sure if they’re good enough )

Just realized it’s hard to see the photos in polls so I’m commenting it lol

I think with wristshit it's hard to judge if it fits. I always look how the watch fits when I see myself in the mirror with my whole body. Because for example I'm 2 meters so it makes difference how does it look like in relation to the whole body.

Medium looks great on you. There is a great photo of Muhammad Ali wearing a tank. I bet there wasnt a watch salesman alive that would have said it was a womans watch. Watch makers tweak everything to try and keep sales going. They went up in size now they are going down in size. Lots making 36mm watches. Most vintage is between 33mm-36mm.

Wear what you like and what suits you.

AH! That’s a great idea. I didn’t think about the mirror look. Thank you! Will need to check it out next time

Thank you! I’ll have to take a longer time to decide the next time I go into my AD haha . Only spent about 5-10 min on these before I had to leave

Different watch but I think shows the point about size

Medium. Large doesn’t look right and the date window ruins it.

I voted medium. I think you can even pull off smaller if you wanted. Size isn’t what makes a watch for girls, in my opinion. It’s the design and whether it’s iced out. A big macho Royal Oak looks like a girl’s watch if it’s covered in diamonds. That’s how I see it anyway.

Wristshit. I know it’s a typo but it sounds even more appropriate and accurate than wristshot

I tend to prefer smaller size but being square I think the large fits very well too ! So it's just a matter of taste

Agree. Medium looks much better and most watches, including the Santos, benefit from not having a too small date window squeezed into an awkward spot.

·

I would prefer the large but you you like the medium better for your self get the medium

·

I'd go medium. It really depends what look you like. I am the same height and wrist size as you and prefer wearing watches on the smaller side (36mm to 38mm for watches without a prominent bezel). Though I do catch myself looking at people wearing chunkier watches and pondering if I should wear a chunkier watch.

I find it's better to take a picture of the watch on your wrist facing a full length mirror with you standing about 2 feet (60cm) from the mirror. Then you can see how the watch looks on you overall.

Medium is always the right pick.

Definitely the medium - suits you perfect

·

Is there a difference in price? That may explain why AD recommend the L model. AD are not your friends, the want you money 😅

·

I have a large because I wanted the date. The next will be a medium. If they’re saying it’s a girls watch, I’d find another AD.

·

I’m in a similar wrist/height ballpark and have had the same thing said to me by Rolex ADs when I was comparing the 36 vs 41mm datejust. Haven’t bought either yet but it seemed kinda silly to me at the time, and I still lean toward the midsize model there too.

$750. But I had a Cartier boutique say the same to me. Granted this guy did not look like he wanted to help me at all… lol

Screw that! If you're interested in buying a 5000 + dollar piece they should be serving you not trying to make you feel weird about the one you are interested in....get the one you love....when you are wearing it nobody is going to think that's a girls watch

That’s true! Even their website shows a guy wearing it!

Cartier “sizes” are tricky since they’re all over the map it seems. The Santos medium fits my 6.75 inch wrist perfectly. As does the Tank Must large. The AD salesman tried hard to get me to buy both...and it was mighty tempting. But left with just the Tank (a gift for my wife, which I wear on occasion). Would love to go back and get the Santos someday though. Such a stunningly gorgeous watch.

Dressier watches often look class a shade smaller. Just remember; Muhammad Ali wore the smaller version of the Tank and looked absolutely killer in it with his massive heavyweight champion hands.

Its hard to tell from photos. Most important is what you prefer. Other than size the large has a date. I personally sit with team medium when it comes to the santos

·

Evey AD you've been to that has told you thar the medium Santos is a girl's watch is an imbecile. I'd take my business elsewhere.

·

Definitely go medium. It fits you better, looks cleaner without the date window. The AD wants you to purchase a more expensive watch for additional commission.
