Do you struggle over your next watch purchase?

I'm chilling at the pool this afternoon on vacation scrolling WC for the first time in a few days other than a quick look see. It's good to get break from the grind every once in a while.

So while I've been chasing serenity I've also been obsessing over the next watch. About a month ago I was sure I was buying a green GO SeaQ. In fact, I was planning on buying one at Bay Area meeting up at Topper Watch. That plan fell through and I had to reevaluate my next move.

As it turns out after looking over my small collection of 7 watches I realized that I really need a JLC Polaris not a GO. So I go all in on the Polaris. I start the research but can't get the GO out of my head. So I don't pull the trigger.

Then for some dumb reason I think I can source out a Rolex DJ at the AD. So I start looking into that. It seems possible but it will take a lot of time and effort which I don't I like to do. So that's a no go.

It turns out a couple days ago I got the opportunity to get the GO SeaQ on a bracelet. So I pulled the trigger and bought it. It should be arriving in soon.

It took over a month of vacillating over what I wanted before I could make a decision and buy a watch.

Does everyone else have the same or similar struggle?

It is a continuous struggle. I’ve stopped buying all together and am just saving up for when the perfect watch falls in my lap.

I'm not really there yet. I have a short list of watches to buy that will make me happy. This was one of them. Something about that green in person just rocks. But I am being way more selective and buying less.

We’ve all been there and there is a reason you kept going back to the GO. I think you’ll love it.

It’s a beautiful watch! Enjoy it.

I wish I had the same struggle 🤣

·

It’s an absolutely killer watch. Good thing you came back to it!

·

Funny I owned the blue, black and green GO sea q in 39.5mm caliber 39-11, now I own the solid 18K red gold version on Trooic style and it's fantastic, I tried on Polaris to chunky fior me, the GO is much more compact and badass. Cheers

This is the way, wait untill it feels right, if your thinking about multiple watches you need to wait it out.

·

Okay.

1) "So while I've been chasing serenity I've also been obsessing over the next watch" made me laugh out loud :-)

2) I feel your struggle. You want to make the right choice for that kind of money. And there is so much on offer, there always seems to be an equivalent or an even better alternative lurking around the corner. But is it really?!

3) Smart to stretch out the decision making process in order to go full circle. Secure in the knowledge that you have evaluated and dismissed all the alternatives.

4) You can't go wrong with a GO!

Congrats man, fantastic watch, in the best color available for it. Enjoy.

That is a great looking watch from a brand that I like a lot based on reports from friends who have actually paid for one. Most days while my wife continues to work from home, I research potential watch purchases. Unless I need to special order a particular watch and therefore am obligated to ownership, I tend to change my mind when I visit the various ads on spontaneous shopping trips. Just before the global pandemic, my regular multi brand ad received a platinum FP Journe Moonphase watch from the agent, not one of the models that collectors lust after but stunning, it is more money than I am accustomed to paying for one watch so it is a fantasy. I look at the rabble of watches purchased from Giorgio since that moment realized that I have already over paid for the Journe had I just saved for a few years. I guess chaos is how I collect my watches. Lol.

·

Congrats! Glad to see you picked up the GO. Well done!

which is that?

There are so many choices and eventually you narrow it down to one potentially two. I think the issue many of us have is wanting different watches for different reasons. In the end if you take the necessary time to reevaluate and ensure you are making the right decision, you typically will.

The GO SeaQ is a beautiful watch and in green 🔥. Great choice!

·

Firstly, Congrats! What a nice watch - Looking forward to an NWA soon!

I feel your pain, the Polaris is gorgeous, but just niche enough and pricey enough to be out of scope for me. Maybe one day they'll do a 39mm no date in green...

An important factor in such deliberations for me, is ensuring to think out the requirements to the point I have closure on those pieces I choose not to go for.. There needs to be a solid reason, otherwise, the itch will remain, unscratched.. a dangerous proposition.

What were your reasons for choosing the GO over the JLC/Rolex?

I have in recent months been toying around in my mind a number of watches. Trying to find something that's a bit different to what I have already is the difficulty. The watch I really like at this time is the Omega Aqua Terra Summer Blue but I have virtually the same watch already. Last week following the rumours of price increases at Omega & a surprise full price offer for the Aqua Terra Small Seconds that I had, the dithering over the new watch ended. One sold, one bought. As easy as that :)

This is me for the GO Panomatic lunar in green. I think part of the issue is that while that watch is dressy and somewhat casual, the green that I love so much esp with that dial isn’t as versatile as I would prefer with my lifestyle. I want to wear all of my watches regularly, and I often have trouble being honest with myself about what versatile really means for me (I don’t give a hoot about water resistance but I do need a watch to operate in casual and business casual environments while flying somewhat under the radar). The thing is . . . I like different and loud . . . But in practice I want more muted. Sigh.

Good talk....😂truth be I get you. This is the loudest watch I have.

100% I fight this thought in my head that I need something to cover every style, and rarely have an overlap. It’s not a bad thing otherwise I’d have 10 black dial watches.

I gave a few black dials and I only have 8 watches. 😂I need to get a blue dial next. That's why I want the Polaris in blue.

I was okay until I heard about the new SwatchPain and now I want one. I then discovered the Paddling Pool watch and want that too. Give or take a Casio Edifice and another Steeldive in case the Swatch falls through, there's no struggle at all. 😉

I got you! None at all. I'll co-sign.

·

Every time. That’s part of the journey.

·

I can relate for sure…

·

It's always a struggle, things catch my eye but seem to find or once see in person on wrist no go. Or something out of the blue pops up and really grabs my attention.

I know the struggle is real!

My wife wears the blue SeaQ. I get to borrow it from time to time. It’s a great watch. Nice choice. Enjoy.

As for my decision making, I have a short list of watches that I want when the time and money are right. I’m really happy with my collection right now so I’m planning to ride economy for a bit before buying again. Somehow, I’m not sure my income will keep up with the massive and frequent price increases of virtually every luxury brand, though.

I've got a couple more watches to get to where your at.

HA! missed this post when it came out. Love it that you went through a tortured and slightly schizophrenic path to the watch. I'm guessing the green SeaQ love was based on a try on? IF a try on goes swimmingly, it can be really hard to ever let go of that attraction.

Regarding your varied thought process, here's some of my buying conundrums:

  • I hate Rolex, should I try to get a Rolex?

  • Dress watches are dumb, but I need a Cartier?

  • I have way to many divers, but I don't have a GS diver, and I need that, right?

  • My watches are too boring, so bring on the crazy, and.. Crazy watches can be too weird for daily wear.

  • I don't like China stealing IP, so how about some Chinese clomages?

Ok, the last one was fake, I dislike the clomage industry. But the other are paradoxes haunt my mind.🙄

Congrats on the SeaQ - it's a diver with Sea in the name so I pretty much will automatically like it! 😉 (one of my several below, after a day on the briny deep)

Wow thats a lot. Here's may take.

Don't get a Rolex if you don't like them. You don't need them. I'm only thinking of get one more a DJ.

I feel the same way. I don't need a dress watch. I wear short every day. A Cartier would be nice but what would I do with it.

I can't answer that one. 😂But I know your GS Fan boy. Maybe thats the answer.

I'm dress boring to. Dark solid colors. Shorts and flip flops. My watches need to match me. Boring is solid. I'm ok with it.

No on last one.

Hope my two cents helps.

Yes and I still do it takes me months to decide the next purchase research and time even the slightest detail it comes down too. something will piss or turn me off very few watches that I will be head over heels and shoot straight through.

I don't do much impulse buying. By the time I start to shop for a watch I pretty much have it in my head it's the one I want all the leg work has been done.

·

That’s good because I was in San Juan airport hung out there for over a hour and they had nice Swatches, Tissot and Invictas. I looked admired and moved on. Yeah I would want them but for sure I don’t need them.

That's what I would've done👍.
