Why I bought a Swatch?

Why I bought this Swatch?

I admit that I started looking at the lineup of Swatch first since they released the MoonSwatch. That was a cool move between Omega and Swatch. But I remember the price was A$280 instead of A$380 when it was released. In my opinion, I would expect it can last longer than just being a toy at the price point (I saw several button drop-off complaints).

Then I start looking at their art pieces. I found this. The look of Van Gogh's stary night caught my eye at first glance. I felt this is a unique watch with a unique look. A$150 is a reasonable price for just a toy. And I wanted to get it! So I bought it.

They do excel at high concept themes like this. I'm very upset that I can't properly make an "impression" pun as Van Gogh was Post-Impressionist.

·

I really like their art inspired pieces. The Centre Pompidou collaboration is a very fun line as is the Keith Haring one. This is where those Swatches shine in my opinion, as very fun watches pulling from other famous paintings or art works. The Van Gogh is an excellent choice!

I'd love to see them do something similar to the BMW art car project, I think that would be cool.

·

Now that is one cracker of a Swatch.

·

Cool unique watch. Though the price seems pretty high to me. But hey it's your money and I guess if it costs that much that means people are buying them. I guess it's a limited edition?

·

That's a conversation starter for sure, Beautiful piece.

I think this is the same as the one I bought on vacation several years ago. It's the only watch I bought in my adult life, before becoming an addict 😅 I don't know what happened to it...

I like yours!! I have a Christmas poll about Swatch today actually  😊

I love the creative and fun approach Swatch brings to their lines. Seiko does it too with various special edition collaboration (like the Street Fighter series, etc). But I think Swatch takes their creative desig s to a whole other level. Wish more brands did that.

·

Love it!

Thank you, my friend. Yes, the Centre Pompidou collaboration attracted me when I first saw them. Love them!

Not a limited edition. I think it is a popular model because when I got into the Swatch store and looked for this model, they told me they only had the last one. This must be a bestseller!

This one looks nice! Is that an Ukiyoe-styled painting there?

Yes, it is. Easy to start either an art conversation or a watch conversation

That's true. I also have a Seiko X Naruto collaboration watch. Japanese watch matches Japanese anime. As a fan of them both, I couldn't be more excited!

I Really like the swatch art series, but the Starry Night is the best out of the bunch! Great watch!

Me too! I'm a 90s kid. My first watch was a Casio. That's part of my grown-up memory. I witnessed the 10-year battery guarantee (it actually worked for 13 years). Casio is always my love.

Wise choice wish the Moonswatches were better made very disappointed. But the regular swatches are cool and artsy thats what I like about them but they are loud tickers.

I love Swatch. I would easily buy one a month.  However…..that damn water resistance is what stops me.  I can’t trust it for daily wear.  I’m not diving in it but shower, dishes, and showers.

Try Casio then

I have a few but I don’t want to dominate my case with Casio plus I want colorful fun colors. In fact I’m still looking for affordable brands that have colorful fun watches just for that reason for the WR. So far Smile Solar but still searching.
