Tissot PRX vs. Tissot Gentleman

Tissot PRX has attracted a lot of attention in recent years, and it is regarded by many watch critics as the best integrated sport watch below the US$1,000 price point. It has very good finishing and a very detailed dial for the price. On the other hand, I personally love the Tissot Gentleman. It has a more simple but also more timeless design. For an everyday watch, between the two, which would be your preference, and why?

Voted PRX cuz that what I have. But I got my SIL a Gentleman for Christmas a couple years ago, and it’s an excellent watch.

I imagine your SIL would be very happy, as I know the Gentleman is an excellent watch as an owner.

I think both are very good, but I picked the Gentleman, because I think it is comparatively easier to dress up or dress down according to the occasion. And I also have a plan to get an integrated sport watch from another brand. Otherwise, I may go for the PRX instead.

·

I voted gentleman as prefer the look and it was a higher quality version of the movement (does away with the plastic escapement).

·

I have both and I think the Gentleman would be the better pick for a single, everyday watch.

The PRX is a great pick if you are looking for something a bit more “of the moment” that may seem a bit dated (again) once the current integrated sports watch craze fades.

I love them both and don’t mind that my PRX may not be in style in a few years.

Thanks for the information! I was not aware that the Gentleman has a better movement, but I did pick the Gentleman because of the look. While the PRX is also an excellent watch, I feel the Gentleman is more suitable as an everyday watch.

I am with you on this. I love both, but as I just need one, I picked the Gentleman. It can easily dress up or dress down depending on the occasion. I really love it!

I’ve always favoured the Gentlemen over the PRX, looks better in my opinion.

Also more timeless. You can also swap the bracelet with a leather strap. 😀

·

I voted for the Gentleman, I love the green dial version.

Yes, the green works very well with the overall design, very elegant. I also like that the dial is divided into 4 quadrants.

·

I own a PRX but not a Gentleman and voted the latter. I love my PRX but the Gentleman definitely looks like a more flexible everyday wear

·

With the elegant Gentleman and the brutalist PRX put side by side like this I think Tissot should rename the PRX to “Caveman”.

I like my Gentleman for exactly the reason you mentioned. It wears very comfortably on my wrist. If I am to look for a sport watch, I would likely go for the PRX.

I can also swap the bracelet with a leather strap. However, there is one thing I do not like about the bracelet. The official leather strap has a quick release feature whereas the bracelet does not have one. It is very difficult to remove the bracelet from the watch. So, even though the Gentleman can match with either a bracelet or a leather strap, changing one to the other is a challenging task.

Yeah I feel like if the watch isn't a diver or some tool watch where you need solid unmovable spring bar, it just doesn't make sense not to have the spring bars be quick release. Which is an irony that the PRX's bracelet has quick release despite its limited strap availability

Haha.. I wouldn't say that. In fact, I think the PRX is a good looking sport watch, while the Gentleman has a more traditional style. Both can be worn as an everyday watch, and this all depends on one's personal taste. That's why I am interested in hearing what others think.

·

For me, Gentleman all day — that watch is gorgeous in-person.

·

I like the PRX design more but technically the Gentleman is the superior watch.

If I could have a PRX with the Gentleman's movement that'd be my pick

·

The Gentleman simply looks great and timeless. I would have gotten it if it came with a smaller case and shorter lug-to-lug. The PRX is a good choice as well but once you get tired of how it looks, you'd have to keep it on your shelf for some time to "refresh" the excitement. I ended up with something in the middle of both, a PR100 Powermatic80.

·

The Gentleman is a brilliant watch but I can't help thinking if this poll had been done a few years ago the results would have been reversed.

i think it just goes to show that the integrated bracelet hype is dying

·

100% Gentleman. There is something about the overall look of the PRX that does NOT do it for me. Not a fan.

·

The new Erebus Ascent enamel dial versions look like a pretty great 39mm Gentleman alternative.

·

I was undecided between the two, but ultimately opted for the PRX in green. I think the Gentleman is definitely the more elegant of the two, and is also much more versatile to be dressed up or down. Hower, for me the PRX is the better sports watch (if you like the angular/geometric design), and also I didn't really like the Gentleman's bracelet with the polished centre lugs.

Interesting.. it is a new brand at the presale stage, and looks like they use Miyota movements.

Yes, the polished centre lugs easily catch scratches...

·

I think it depends, the PRX is sized at 35mm, the Gentleman only comes in 40mm (?) so people with smaller wrists can only wear the PRX.

It also depends on personal style, the Gentleman is a dress watch, the prx is a sports watch, but I think the prx works with more outfits and styles.

·

Gentleman, hasn't got the naff unserviceable plastic escapement.

Have you actually felt a PRX? Nasty cheap feeling bracelet.

No... Just comparing the two watches from the stock photos on Tissot's official website and pictures of the watches people posted to social media to get a sense of how they look on the wrists. I was mainly looking for a versatile watch that can go with both casual and formal outfit, I picked the Gentleman.
