Collecting & Contentment

Hi. Here's the current collection... which has had a few additions and subtractions recently. I said hello to Nomos, Khaki Pilot Pioneer, Vaer and Nodus, and I said goodbye to Brew Retrograph, Khaki Field and Dresskx. I'm super happy with where it is at the moment and trying to just enjoy this group for a bit... Contentment is an interesting contradiction when discussing something as opulent as watch collecting, but there's something to be said for not always looking to what's next. How do you deal with fighting the endless urge for more and "better?" ...But because this group always has such good taste, I still need to know how you think the collection is coming together and any ideas for the (distant) future, haha. Looking forward to your thoughts on any of the above (or below)!

The group:

Casio A168 / Vaer R1 Chrono / Nomos Club Campus / Hamilton Khaki Pilot Pioneer / Farer Stanhope 2 / Nodus Sector GMT / Baltic Aquascaphe / Halios Universa

It’s weird… when I feel content I also feel numb and dull which I’m not too crazy about maybe that’s another topic for my therapist 😁

It’s a solid collection. When the urge for something new comes, buy a nice high quality strap or bracelet for the one you wear the least. Does wonders my friend; trust me!

We're on the same page! The blue (Baltic) strap on the Farer just came yesterday and put the Erika's on the Baltic.

Tasteful collection good microbrands

thank you!

Excellent example of a collection that doesn’t need big brands to be great! Especially appreciate the Nomos and Halios.

As soon as I stopped chasing the watches outside of my budget I became content with what I have.

Thank you! That's sort of been my goal, to have an affordable/interesting group of watches that I look forward to wearing every day, without stretching the budget... Although, in the next year or so I may look at my first watch in the $2-3k range (we'll see).

·

I have been putting every watch I want to buy in a spreadsheet with data about the watch and pictures of it and then not buying it

...

3 months later I come back and suddenly I don't want the watch as badly! Strange isn't it

Very Nice collection

I’ll offer the same sentiment as many others, very cool collection!

I have a bunch of questions for you. Why do you think you’ve stuck to mainly micro brands? Affordability? More unique designs?

Do you buy most of your watches second hand, or do you ever buy new? When buying second hand what sites have you had most luck with? One thing that is stopping me from making purchases is that I don’t feel comfortable with the process of buying and selling second hand. I know we aren’t in this to make money, but I also don’t want to be losing tons of money if I get a watch I don’t enjoy and want to sell it.

Finally, I saw your comment about jumping into a watch in the 2-3k range. I’m about to make my first purchase over just a few hundred bucks and I’m 99% set on the Monta Noble. Anything else you can think of that I should consider? Was previously looking at your same NOMOS but didn’t love it in person.

Cheers if you read this far 😂

Great collection. The Farer and the Nodus really stand out to my eye. Almost as if they were meant to be together. They really complement each other well. I also love the Hamilton. Enjoy wearing them and enjoy the break from 'the never ending search'.

Thank you! Still in the honeymoon phase with the Nodus and Hamilton.

Hey! I think I've enjoyed microbrands from sort of an 'indie' perspective. I was in a band for a while and I think my "punk" roots make me want to support the little guy, if that makes sense... I've purchased new from the brands' site, used from ebay and new from jomashop, and have had good experiences with all of them, so far. I've considered Monta for the "big" purchase as well... also, considering Oris, Tudor and Longines. But that's down the line.

Thanks! Yeah, I was lucky enough to get one from their site... and already curious about the 2nd version coming out later this year. Such a cool watch/company.

any straps you recommend?

·

I’m not going to lie, sometimes it’s really difficult to not buy a new watch. I almost bought a Willard today but had to stop myself and remember that that money would better be spent towards my grail. I need to stay the course.

any straps you recommend?

Rios make lovely ostrich leather strap, likewise Hamilton. I’ve also enjoyed Sulla alligator strap.

Thanks! And yes, I agree… green or light blue or something one of these days.

These might be good options especially if you are looking at the 2-3k price point, although you might want to look at used prices for the marinemaster.
