Thoughts on the bulova lunar pilot 45mm

Hey fellow crunchers!

I’m considering pulling the trigger on a preowned bulova lunar pilot 45mm, no date, nato strap.

My considerations would be the massive 45mm. For reference, my wrist is 7”.

Would love to hear your thoughts for those who own one! Wristshots are more than welcome!

Thanks for reading!

My thoughts?

I own this watch. I didn’t want to spend the $$ on a Speedmaster, which I find overrated. I bought an after market rally strap for it. Looks great. I’ll send a pic shortly. The shape and lug size almost purposely makes it run and look big on wrist. You should consider it!

·

I do not own one, but I have been interested. The thing holding me back has been the size. I also have a 7 inch wrist and I just thought I would be too big. Perhaps look at the reduced size one they came out with recently? 43mm I think. Just my two cents!

·

I have the same sized wrist and I wouldn’t wear that size watch. Too big for my taste.

·

I have a 6.5" wrist, I like it.

I recently tried on the 43 on my 7.5" wrist. I'm pretty sure the 45 would have worked but I wouldn't see the point. My pictures are here.

I think the 43 looks perfect on your wrist!

If in doubt, you should try it on first. There’s no substitute for seeing the watch on your actual wrist.

6.5-ish mas or menos. (For some reason 6.25-ish has been stuck in my head forever, just remeasured, closer to 6.5-ish mas o menos, so been on here wrong for awhile apologies....🫣🤐😬)

I have this on a Haveston Lunar Grey Velcro now, seemed to fit better for me. Still wear it, dont want a speedy. If they'd had the smaller back then I'd have considered it, but only if it too was on fire sale, with stacking coupons at Macy's.

Pics for reference. Also doesn't overhang in person, can't ever photograph on wrist without blowing out perspective and proportions.

I’m sold! Lovely collection! And nice zelos hammerhead!

It is a great watch. I had one. The watch was super accurate as advertised. I have a 6 1/2” and it felt great on my wrist. The chrono pushers have this satisfying feel when you press them. The one issue for me was the seconds action. For high frequency movement I was expecting the tiny seconds hand to be sweeping, but it ticks. It hit all the markers, but it ticked the seconds and for a watch of that caliber I could not get over it, especially when comparing the seconds to the gliding motion of the chronometer/Tachymeter

On my 7.25” wrist. I like it!

I own the model with the date and I absolutely love everything about it. My wrist size is 7.25 by the way. It wears great on me and the price I got it for was too good to pass up with it being pretty much new. I like bigger watches myself so the size doesn’t bug me at all and I really don’t think it’s that big. I would get it but that’s me :)

·

I was worried about it being to big. Then mine arrived, and I laughed out loud. You call this big? I got ten watches that dwarf this thing. It's perfect. I never even know it's there.

Never regretted purchasing mine

·

Managed to try them on at a dealer! Here are some wrist shots!

Yes it’s a little big, but feels at home for me!

White in 43.5mm

Image

Black in 45mm.

Contemplated for a bit before settling on the black.

The difference in size is negligible due to black giving the illusion of being “smaller”. Tho it’s a tad more comfy on the 43.5mm.

Looking forward to swapping out the straps!

·

I got this watch yesterday for my birthday from work. It's big but surprisingly wearable. I have a 6.25 inch wrist. The lugs don't overhang. Keep in mind, this is a pilot's watch for the Moon. Legibility was the most important feature. It's not a dress watch. It's a tool with a huge wrist presence. It's easy to read, the movement is insane, the chronograph and tachymeter is satisfying to use, awesome history and great value for the price

·

Do it. Mine is awesome

This is mine ... You won't regret it !!

·

I'd get the 43 if it's in your budget. Comes in a nice box, better fit, and comes in the blue and white colour way! Here it is in my 7" wrist too.

Hey man, for the haveston lunar gray strap that you have, do you use the stock spring bars? Or you get the curved spring bars?

I’m having a hard time slotting in 20mm natos cause the gap is too small 🥲

So for the Haveston and other NATOs, I take out the spring bars, position the strap where I want it, then reinstall. Due to case shape/clearance you would run the risk of breaking a springbar by forcing it.

This way will 100% work, just be patient and go slow, with a good springbar tool.

I have just got in a batch of curved spring bars, and they would probably work even better.

They completely changed up the ease of switching straps on my Citizen Avion pilot style.

Once I get home, I plan to try them out on the LP. I'll get some pics out once I do. I'm guessing they would work very well tho.

·

I own one. As long as your wrist is 6.75" (17.15cm) or larger, it wont fit you right.

Yup. It's still snug, but it's not gonna bust it out. Feels more secure than the weird non single pass style single pass that came on mine.

Still gonna try the curved ones next week for kicks. Literally made my Citizen Avion infinitely more intriguing, now that pretty much any 22mm I have will fit easily.
