Trying on the Bulova Lunar Pilot for size

I'm not in the market for this just yet, but I thought I should try it on to see if it should stay on the list. Today I had some time (after my embarrassing trip to the bank to unlock my card and online banking) so I visited Hill Samuel.

I tried the 43, in both the standard and the blue/white colour options. I'm happy to say it fits, and I'm pretty sure the larger version would also but I wouldn't be comfortable with it.

I hadn't really thought about the blue but the textured dial is nice and the colour combination is better than I expected. So now that I know that it can stay on the list, I have the question of which version. There's plenty of time to decide that.

Snoopy all the way man! That blue-on-white is gorgeous! 👍 👍

I agree the Snoopy looks incredible, but the more I’ve thought about it, the more I think black dial. Mainly because I like the history of the watch, and if I’m gonna buy for the history, I ought to buy the correct color as well, right? Just my 2 cents. Either way, it’s a great watch!

I thought I was a traditionalist until I saw the Snoopy. I think this works well for the Bulova and then get the real Speedy Moonwatch.

·

Dunno why anyone would get anything other than the black one - personally I've got one, I wanted one that resembles the one worn on the moon, not just an other colourful chronograph. I just don't get it myself 🤔🌛

Yes this is my dilemma, the original moon watch or a pretty chrono. Although I no longer have the speedy I do have two other black "space" chronos, but this is obviously quite different. I think I'll probably stick with the black but I've got time to mull it over.

I’d go blue and white idk why it just looks amazing

I'm holding out for a quartz version of the Astronaut. I love its 39mm diameter, but the current limited edition mechanical reissue costs way too much at $3500. Not to mention that quartz would be more faithful to the original tuning fork movement anyway. And if Bulova/Accutron wait too long, I may have to settle for a Forstner A-12.

·

I do really like the look of the blue one but I’ve already got the other one and don’t really wear it that much to justify getting another one ha

To each his own. At the end of the day, they're all homages of the ones worn on the moon. I have the 1861 Speedy and it has a different movement (though in the same family) and the Bulova Lunar Pilot Panda (which has a really different movement than the moon watch (quartz crisis) but cool because it's a HAQ). I get it though, closer in appearance means a lot. Good luck

The obvious answer is get both!

·

I so wanted that watch to fit me but I wasn’t comfortable with the size. If it works for you, grab it! It’s such a good one.

·

Nice. This one is next on my list. White dial as well. What's your wrist size?

I'm 7.5", pretty standard, 40mm tend to fit very well though I'm old fashioned at heart and prefer 38.

Ahhh. Yeah I'm at 7 inches. 42mm wears fine on me but I'm a bit scared of the size on this one. Part of me wants to wait and see if they release in a 41mm down the road... I've always been a big watch guy, smallest I have is a 40.5mm. maybe I should try on a 38mm sometime and see how I like it.

I think the movement is quite large so I doubt they'll make it any smaller.

For what it’s worth, I’m also a 7.5 and the original lunar pilot sits great on my wrist. I wear it every Sunday, sun up to sun down, and it’s super comfortable. And you can pick these up on Amazon for like 350$.

I’m a huge fan of the Lunar Pilot. Tried one on a few months ago and loved it.

I get the dilemma - I’d probably go for the history and thus the black one, but the blue/white is completing. However, given this watches own special history, I’d probably not enjoy the one that’s duplicating the Omega. Just me though!!

I like them both.
