NWA: My first Cartier

Just got my first Cartier, going down the rabbit hole now. Love the look of the stepped case, this is the Cartier New York model that they only manufactured for a couple of years around mid 1970s, and was made in much more limited quantities than its Paris and London counterparts. The size is also bigger than the contemporary Tanks at 38 x 28, which wears better for me.

The beginning of a dangerous journey 💸💸

·

Absolutely beautiful. I am a big fan of the Cartier and the Tank.

·

Gorgeous looking piece. Is that in gold plated?

There is a pretty well priced white dial one on sale in the UK at the moment. I was a bit tempted.. your dial much nicer though..

Thanks! I read a few articles that the NYC stepped tank was only produced across like 1974-1976 or something, and this one's supposedly from 1980. So maybe check with them on provenance if you are keen on getting it!

Oh I’m not n a buying phase! But thanks for the advice in case anyone in the thread is!

·

Cheers! Well worn!

·

Super cool, congrats!

My first was a Ballon Bleu on rose gold with a chocolate dial. A beautiful piece - my only issue with it was the power reserve. As far as the brand is concerned, people can try to denigrate it and write it off as a jewelery-only brand all they want, Cartier has a rich horological history and makes stunning watches, aesthetically pleasing and comfortable to wear. Congrats on your purchase and enjoy the ride!

·

Damn this is a great looking watch. I love the larger case size.

·

Nice.

·

Very beautiful watch!! I just saw one of these get sold the other day!! 🤔

Congrats and give us your thoughts after some extended wear!

That sounds like a classic! Power reserve not an issue for me, if its automatic and I wear it regularly then its not a concern. If it's manual i like the feeling of winding it up in the morning. Either way I'm good. I'm eyeing a YG americaine now but prob will need some time before I cobble up the cash for it.

Wow! What a cool one!
