My first Automatic watch! Seiko SRPG05J1

This was my first automatic watch and I got it last summer. It opened the flood gates into the world of watches for me. I bought this because it seemed to go a little off the beaten path compared to the other presage models and the popularity of other pieces.

Love the domed crystal, sunburst dial, little chrome indices, and the 60s design inspiration. What was your first mechanical/automatic watch?

Always Seiko

Mine was the Orient Kamasu. And despite the (in comparison to other watches) horrible crown action, I still love it an will never sell it.

Great choice, reminds me of my Grail watch the Blancpain 50 Fathoms.

Great choice and awesome bracelet! Strap code? My Seiko has a bezel that doesn’t move, looks like a dive watch and doesn’t have a screw down crown or much water resistance, but I don’t care either lol 😂

My first automatic, an Islander Diver and it too opened up the door to buying more automatics.

·

Just wait, you will develop what I call the wrist-flick-twitch from wearing that automatic. Simply explained, I flick my wrist once in a while when wearing my automatic watches. It's gotten to the point I do it even when I am wearing a quartz watch.

·

Great choice. 👍

·

Wow, that looks so much better than Seiko's official pictures. Really handsome watch. Good choice!

·

That's a great way to start 🙏🏾

·

Got my first mechanical movement in 2015 as a birthday present. Thats when my taste started for Retro and Beautiful dial design that has piqued my interest for more!

I think my first automatic (I had a little mechanical as a kid) was my Swatch I bought in 1996 when Salt Lake had a Swatch store.

Love your watch! I’ve been looking at the GMT version with the silver dial myself….

Thanks! I didn’t know the made a gmt version, just looked it up and they look nice! Did they just come out with those?

·

Hope you can be reunited with it or one like one day! Love hearing from so many people how Seiko was what got their start into this hobby!

Very nice first mechanical watch. My first was a no brand Army issue mechanical that I thought was a Hamilton but may have been a Benrus. Got it at a military surplus store, it was very used and in terrible shape, with a power reserve of 6 hours or so. My first real mechanical that I didn’t have to wind 3-4 times a day was a $99 Invicta Diver with a Miyota movement, no hacking. I can believe 25 years later it’s still $99, it was a fun watch but probably worth $25 bucks.

Those probdivers are pretty cool, super affordable way to get a mechanical watch, I don’t know of anything cooler and less expensive!

Had various Casio and Timex watches as a kid, but my first mechanical watch is this Cedar green enamel dial Seiko Presage:

That’s right. The Crossroads mall. Those days are long gone.

Yeah, the seconds hand is a little fish swimming in the little pool on the dial. It is a cool watch! I don’t wear it much just to keep it looking good because it’s so old now.

Seiko is the rabbit that draws you into the hole of watch Collecting

Last time I was up there, City Center Mall looked nice for an outdoor/hybrid mall. I used to love that Swatch store since I used to wear Swatchs as a kid and here in AZ is is more difficult to find them. Although I’ve moved onto the higher Swatch brands, but Seiko is my all time favorite.

Yea they’re new, I wish they’d come out before the Seiko 5 sports GMT as I’d have had one instead of that. Still love my orange dial 5 sports gmt but I like to have a varied collection and have a blue 5 sports already
