This watch was purchased to celebrate a promotion at work. While a promotion is great news, for me, it meant more than that.
Around four or five years ago, I had a conversation with a mentor at work whom I hold in high esteem, and she told me she believed I could be a director.
Within a split second, a thousand feelings rushed through me. I thought about the constant pain in my face, the progressing inability to walk on my own, my growing fatigue, increasingly frequent medical interruptions, and the general progression of my M.S.
There I was, sitting in front of someone I looked up to, who was telling me I have potential, and my immediate response was “I don’t want that.”
My M.S. was so out of control, every version I had of my future ended with me in a wheelchair and out of the workforce within the next few years. I believed that each day was as good as my life was going to be, and the next day would only be worse. I believed my daughter would never know a mother who could play with her and be there for everything. I didn’t believe I was capable of remaining in the workforce, let alone making director. The limits of M.S. felt too strong, and I was learning to accept living within them.
In November 2019, shortly after that conversation, I had my last relapse.
While recovering from that relapse, I made the decision to try the Carnivore diet. It didn’t take long before my quality of life changed. The daily symptoms of M.S. subsided, the 6-month cycle of relapsing and recovering discontinued, and clinical disease progression came to a halt.
My quality of life dramatically improved…It was like having a whole new body. I was even cleared to discontinue all meds.
Now that this door to a whole new world of possibility has swung wide open, making director is something I believe I am capable of doing…but…who knows, maybe my goals will change. The fact remains, I achieved what I thought was lost to me.
I can do anything. And that’s what this watch reminds me of.

I meant to just say that this dial is sick IRL. And the flowers disappear depending on the angle. And the flowers look like different colors, but it’s really texture applied with laser that make them reflect the light differently. And that the Rolex website does this dial no justice.

Thank you for being so vulnerable to strangers online. I, too, suffer from a degenerative disease that made work practically impossible. I’m legally disabled and know all too well the feeling of not knowing if you’re going to be in a wheelchair in the next decade or so. I’m glad you were able to find a diet that corrected your symptoms and made you capable of working hard towards your goals. My escape from the daily struggle is WC and my local RedBar crew, and it looks like you’ve found a similar outlet/hobby to enjoy. I’m relieved to hear that you were able to go off your medication as well. I’ll be sending prayers and positive vibes your way. Good luck making Director! I honestly thought this dial config was as going to be dumb. Then I saw it IRL and was like oh 😮so *that* is what it looks like. The website lied.
The one thing I would change is the legibility. It’s fun having diamonds sprinkled across and set perfectly in the center of each flower, but I’m constantly guessing the time-ish.

Gina, in a few days since you joined, you have made quite an impression with your stunning watches, the quality of your photos, and the stories behind your posts. But this one really is something else.. nobody knows what sort of struggles we have, and yours is certainly one of bravery. I believe that love is the engine that moves the world.
I didn't know about @TheHoroSexual and @WabiSabiMaster have also some degenerative condition (besides being degenerated adicted to horology 😅). Thank you so much for sharing this with this community. Once more WC showing that this is a nice bunch and it is a space for love to watches, and a little bit more.
