A stop at A. Lange flagship & 🚨NWA 🚨

Last week, we had to travel to New York for some family matters. While there, we were able to decompress and visit the North-American A. Lange & Söhne Flagship location. For us, this was akin to a pilgrimage to the mothership.

Image

The space was stunning and each piece was showcased like a museum. We were quickly greeted by the staff, who helped us try on everything our hearts desired.

Image

I tried on every Little Lange 1 under the sun (except the adventurine dial, which they did not have). The dial on each of these is made of gold, which is the only material soft enough for their guilloche process.

Image

I liked the brown more than I thought I would. But I ultimately eliminated it from my list. Most of my wardrobe is black, white, or blue. There isn’t a need for another brown watch.

Image

I was surprised by the grey dial. I was interested in seeing this in real life because the images are tricky on the website.

The diamond bezel moon was dazzling, but I’m not sure about needing all this bling when the dial already has so much to offer.

Hubs tried on a hockey puck. (Just kidding, it was actually a nicer fit than expected. But it was still larger than his liking.)

Pants on for the tax…

Image

But at the end of the day, he chose a classic among the lineup; a Flagship Exclusive…

Image

The Lange 1 in platinum. The moon phase on this watch is one of my favorite complications of all time. The sky is a separate disc that transitions beautifully from day to starry night. (I might post the tax if hubs send a good pic.) I love it.

Bernd, one of their watchmakers, showed us some of his tricks for swapping out watch straps.

Image

And they helped us order Jean Rousseau straps to refresh our existing pieces.

I didn’t walk away with a new watch for myself that day. But I will put in for a Little Lange 1 at some point, and I may request a custom engraved balance cock too.

Congrats to the hubs, Gina! Wow, such an awesome pickup and hopefully meaningfully tied together weekend… I’m still a bit of a loss of words right now because my eyes are googly and my jaw is on the floor. I’ll comment more later!

He almost didn’t buy it because the week was so sad and it felt weird to do anything fun. In the end, though, I think the Flagship visit was an unforgettable experience that we’ll look back on fondly. Even the 10yo had fun looping the watches and asking the staff for chocolate.

It’s not every day that we get to walk into the flagship, so I told him to get it! It’s special and he’s had his eye on it for so long.

Great experience and stunning piece your husband walked away with! Doesn’t get much better than that.

It was everything I needed to see. So different than trying to pick online.

Jealous they had so many Little Lange 1s! I’d love to try one on.

·

Nice one! Congrats!

I'll have to get over and visit the Flagship store when I'm in town.

Yes, definitely give them a visit.

The custom engraving is an amazing idea! I heard you can swap it on a service too in case your husband wants it on the Lange 1 (and forgot until you mentioned it). Awesome pickup and good idea to learn from the best on the strap changing.

The Flagship said they can’t swap pieces out because each piece is built for the movement its in. Which makes sense when you think about how ALS assembles each watch twice to ensure every piece is shaved, filed, and polished perfectly so all the pieces fit together consistently with each service. It has to be a whole new watch built with that balance cock.

They have two watchmakers on site who do the servicing for every watch in North America. So, if it could have been swapped at service, they would have been the ones to do it anyway.

That makes sense. I’ve only ever seen one and it was a brand new watch.
